Pittsfield Residents File New Litigation Over Cell Tower
By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff
04:33PM / Saturday, October 08, 2022

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Shacktown neighborhood residents have filed new litigation against the city in relation to a Verizon cell tower at 877 South St.

On Wednesday, they filed a suit to disqualify Donovan O'Connor & Dodig law firm from representing the city and a request for default after the defendants did not answer a suit filed in July.

It alleges that the law firm, with whom City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta is a managing partner, has "disqualifying conflicts of interest" because Pagnotta is one of the defendants and has admitted to not having expertise in cell tower litigation in the past.

This comes after the residents' lawyer Scott McCollough received a

@theMarket: Markets Are in a Buy Loop
By Bill Schmick,
09:46AM / Saturday, October 08, 2022
This week, investors are once again thinking that the Federal Reserve Bank will soon be pivoting away from its hawkish interest rate hikes. It is the same old song of misplaced optimism that has fueled the last few bear market rallies. Enjoy this one while it lasts.   Last week, I advised investors that the S&P 500 Index decline to the 3,550 level and then reverse higher. "I will use that behavior to purchase stocks. If we continue higher, buy some more," I said.   I was off by a mere 20 points (the S&P 500 hit 3,570 last Friday). On Monday, stocks soared with all the indexes climbing almost 6% in an epic "V" shaped bounce. As I said in my last column,

By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff
04:20PM / Friday, October 07, 2022

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Traffic Commission last week supported adding signage to a problematic intersection at Elm Street and Holmes Road.

This includes a blinking stop sign, a "stop sign ahead" reminder, and a sign reminding vehicles to go around the meridian at the intersection.

Ward 3 Councilor Kevin Sherman brought the petition forward after observing dangerous traffic violations happening at the site and hearing from constituents who have been affected by it.

Judi Clemons, who lives at 227 Elm St., has had her home hit by vehicles multiple times after they blew through the intersection.

"I think this would help with the vehicles exiting that road, as well as

The Retired Investor: Local News Is Dying. What's the Plan?
By Bill Schmick,
03:38PM / Friday, October 07, 2022
Local newspapers are dying. Try as they might, changes in American society, aided and abetted by the internet, have forced many of these institutions to the brink of insolvency. Their demise could impact you in ways that you might never have imagined.   The newspaper industry, as most readers are aware, has been in a steady decline for years. A loss of readership and advertising, both traditional sources of revenue for centuries, have migrated to other media, such as the digital arena. The pandemic and the resulting economic impact on the U.S. economy only worsened what was already a bad situation, at least from an economic viewpoint.   Penelope Muse Abernathy and Tim Franklin at

Prosecutors say the killing was over allegations of stolen marijuana.    During the sentencing at Berkshire Superior Court, several of Salios' family members gave impact statements that detailed his kind disposition and hopes for the future. They said it was unfair for him to be robbed of it.

"A piece of me is gone that
