Dalton Mock Car Crash Urges Safe Decisions for Young Drivers

The 'driver' of the crashed vehicle is taken away by police as motorists and school buses drive slowly by. Public safety personnel are hoping that it sends a message about bad decisions.  DALTON, Mass. — It was a tragic scene Thursday morning on Old Windsor Road.   A Honda sedan was head-on into a utility pole, its windshield smashed. Alcohol bottles littered the scene. Limbs peeked out from under two bloody sheets. A hearse was parked nearby, ready to take on passengers.    And a young person was taken away in handcuffs.    The incident was both a drill for police and firefighters and a theater in the round for students just down the road

Canna Provisions, Berkshire Humane Team Up for Rabies Clinic

PITTSFIELD, Mass. &mdash With a grant from Canna Provisions, Berkshire Humane Society is offering free rabies vaccines for cats on Tuesday, May 24 from 4:30 to 6 pm and for dogs on Wednesday, May 25 from 5 to 7 pm at the main shelter, 214 Barker Road.   On each day, microchips will be available at a discounted price of $10 each to celebrate National Chip Your Pet month.    Pittsfield residents with any current rabies certificate may also license their dogs on Wednesday: $10 for spayed or neutered dogs and $20 for intact dogs. Pittsfield Annual Fishing Derby Being Held at Wild Acres

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Conservation Commission, in collaboration with Lyon Aviation, will sponsor a free fishing derby for youth 14 and under Saturday, May 21, at the Wild Acres Conservation Area.   The event is rain or shine.   The derby will be held 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.    The accessible trail down to the pond is open. Pittsfield Council Begins Review of Fiscal 2023 Budget

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday spent four hours beginning its review of the city's $172 million budget, preliminarily passing nine departments' spending plans as proposed.

At-Large Councilor Karen Kalinowsky, Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren, and Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick unsuccessfully motioned to make amendments to different departments.

Kronick even delved into his personal views of gender identity when discussing the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, later adding that city government is not responsible for others' feelings.

Pittsfield COVID Cases, Hospitalizations Continue to Rise

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Last week, iBerkshires reported that COVID-19 cases continued to rise after a surge that pushed the city into the "red zone" and hospitalizations had also increased. This week, the report is the same.

On Sunday, the percent positivity rate was 16.6 percent and there were about 132 cases per 100,000 people. The positivity rate was 12.4 percent on the previous Sunday and there were 106 cases per 100,000 people.

This is a stark contrast to the positivity rate of 2.1 in late March when there were only about 13 cases per 100,000 people.

On Monday, there were 20 people hospitalized with the virus at Berkshire Medical Center compared to 17 last week. There

Pittsfield Police Arrest Three After Brierwood Lane Shooting

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield police arrested a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old man believed to be involved in the Brierwood Lane Shooting that left an 18-year-old seriously injured.   On Tuesday, April 26  at approximately 5:00 pm members of the Pittsfield Police Department (PPD) responded to Brierwood Lane in Pittsfield for a reported shooting.    Police reported that well over a dozen shell casings were discovered. The subsequent investigation revealed that an 18-year-old Pittsfield man had been shot multiple times and was seriously injured.
