By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff
02:15PM / Wednesday, August 10, 2022

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of Health is considering developing subcommittees to take a deeper dive into topics within its purview.

Last week, the board's newest member, Dr. Jeffrey Leppo, a cardiologist, suggested the implementation of subcommittees for topics such as housing, opioid settlement, RF radiation, and community health.

Leppo suggested the subcommittees because more than two members cannot discuss agenda items out of session due to the Open Meeting Law. Subcommittees with one or two board members would be a good resource.

07:38AM / Wednesday, August 10, 2022
This week, as Tanglewood enters its sixth week of classical programming, the two large-scale orchestral works to be performed by the Tanglewood Music Festival Orchestra are 20th century classics - each at the polar opposite of the stylistic spectrum: Béla Bartók’s bold and powerful Suite from "The Miraculous Mandarin" and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s melodically luxuriant Symphony No. 2. Both are audience favorites. Adding to the mix in the chamber music sphere are an evening – the first of four – of a traversal of the complete piano works of Johannes Brahms by the stellar Garrick Ohlsson - and program three of "Pathways from Prague,"

Letter: Playing Ukraine National Anthem at Tanglewood on Parade Was Bad Idea
Letter to the Editor,
07:20PM / Tuesday, August 09, 2022

To the Editor:

As recently reported by The Eagle in a piece by Clarence Fanto, at Tanglewood on Parade, the Ukrainian national anthem was played. Many in the shed and the lawn stood up in support. While I would certainly concede that Russia is the worst of the two countries in terms of human rights abuses, Ukraine has many despicable aspects to it of which I am highly confident almost all the people standing were ignorant.

Boston Pops conductor Thomas Wilkins said, "The Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony stands with the people of Ukraine, and salutes all who stand for democracy and against injustice, and are willing to sacrifice everything for their freedom." Ironically, Mr.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – A ride through the city on a fire truck, a ceremony on the steps of City Hall with the mayor, TV cameras from the local news station out of Albany, N.Y.   It’s a lot for a group of 13-year-olds.   And it is all very much deserved.   But as Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-and-under All-Stars Manager Ben Stohr was putting his team through its final full practice at Deming Park before leaving for this week’s Babe Ruth World Series in Virginia, he also was thinking about how to make sure his players do not get overwhelmed by the moment.   “Balance is definitely the key,” Stohr said about an hour before the team loaded up on a
