PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Fish and buckets flew into Onota Lake on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to MassWildlife's annual spring trout stocking event. This is one of the district's most popular stocking events of the year, with more than 200 people enthusiastically releasing about 550 rainbow trout ranging in size from about 9 to 18-plus inches. BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced earlier this month the start of the public comment period for Beyond Mobility, the Massachusetts 2050 Transportation Plan. As an update, the public comment period has been extended and will be open through May 31, 2024. Community members are encouraged to offer thoughts on Beyond Mobility by using an online survey tool, which can be found at www.mass.gov/beyond-mobility.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Feel free to use or leave a toy at Onota Lake's newest infrastructure meant to foster community and benefit kids.
Burbank Park now has a toy library thanks to Wahconah Regional High School senior Alexandra Bills. Located along the wall at the beach area, the green and blue structure features two shelves with sand toys that can be used to enhance children's visits.
The Parks Commission supported Bills' proposal in February as part of her National Honors Society individual service project and it was installed this month. Measuring about 4 feet wide and 5.8 feet tall, it was built by the student and her father with donated materials from a local

DALTON, Mass. — The Planning Board approved the renewal of Nichols Sand and Gravel's special permit for earth removal. The company, located at 190 Cleveland Road, operates a gravel pit there. The hours of operation will remain 7 to 4 p.m. The commission approved owner Paul Nichols' request to allow trucks to depart the property in either direction. Nichols has to apply for renewal of the special permit every year. The previous permit required the truck to exit the property to the right. What's worse, in a year or two, many find that the costly smart refrigerator, oven, or washing machine in your kitchen is suddenly plagued with all kinds of problems.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield's Department of Public Utilities announces that phase 1 of the flushing of the city's water system will begin Monday, April 22. Water mains throughout the city will be flushed, through hydrants, over the upcoming weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — It is the "end of the road" for a kayak kiosk proposal after pushback from community members and the City Council.
Whenever Watersports has withdrawn its proposal for a kayak rental program at Onota Lake. Safety concerns arose around the company's self-serve model though it was stipulated that users sign liabilities away with a waiver as part of the process.
