PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Just days after District Attorney Andrea Harrington's investigation found the police killing of Miguel Estrella within legal bounds, the City Council has asked for policing alternatives.
A petition from Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren requesting $75,000 appropriated for the creation of alternative community emergency services was referred to Mayor Linda Tyer.
"Daniel Gillis was our wake-up call," he said.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Members of the City Council aired their grievances on the North Street bike lanes on Tuesday night but data is showing that the lanes have improved safety. Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales presented a road report for the corridor which showed a 77 percent crash decrease after the lanes were implemented.
This was in response to at-Large Councilor Karen Kalinowsky's request to investigate safety issues with the new bike lanes and the change in traffic pattern on North Street.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Cale Rathburn made the only save of a penalty kick shootout on Wednesday night to send the Crows past the Maroon to claim the summer championship of the Pittsfield Soccer League. The Crows saw a 1-0 lead evaporate in the closing minutes of the second half but rallied to hold off the Maroon through two five-minute overtimes to get to the shootout. It was 4-4 going into the fifth round of PKs before Rahburn, who made six saves in the 50-minute regulation time, got all of Camilo Bermudez’ attempt to give the Crows an opening.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Selectmen approved a one-year extension for operating and manufacturing for Royal Hemp LLC, which is in the process of constructing a new building on its property. Lev Kelman, owner of 660 Cheshire Road, said at Monday's board meeting that he expects construction to begin soon but wanted a 24-month extension in case of delays. Kelman is one of only two licenses allowed by town bylaws.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of Health is considering developing subcommittees to take a deeper dive into topics within its purview.
Last week, the board's newest member, Dr. Jeffrey Leppo, a cardiologist, suggested the implementation of subcommittees for topics such as housing, opioid settlement, RF radiation, and community health.
It will be on the agenda for the board's next meeting and members are expected to bring ideas for possible subcommittees.
Leppo suggested the subcommittees because more than two members cannot discuss agenda items out of session due to the Open Meeting Law. Subcommittees with one or two board members would be a good resource.

As recently reported by The Eagle in a piece by Clarence Fanto, at Tanglewood on Parade, the Ukrainian national anthem was played. Many in the shed and the lawn stood up in support. While I would certainly concede that Russia is the worst of the two countries in terms of human rights abuses, Ukraine has many despicable aspects to it of which I am highly confident almost all the people standing were ignorant.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Berkshire County launched its new visitor center adjacent to the Berkshire Athenaeum, located at 16 Bartlett Ave. This collaborative initiative between RSVP and the city's Office of Cultural Development will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The center will include information materials on countywide activities, a ticketing station that gives reduced rates on theater tickets, a kiosk, and a volunteer on hand to answer questions. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are searching for the suspect in Monday morning's robbery of the Greylock Federal Credit Union on Kellog Street. A man reportedly passed a note to a teller demanding money shortly before 9 a.m. and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no weapons or injuries involved. The suspect is described as a white male, possibly in his 40s, with black hair and a thin build. He was wearing a baseball cap and a dark-colored surgical mask. He appeared to have fled on foot.
