BCC to Offer Flu and COVID Vaccines

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —?Berkshire Community College (BCC)?welcomes Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) and Community Health Programs (CHP) to campus on?Friday, Dec. 16 from 1:30-3 pm?for free vaccination clinics.    BCC is located at 1350 West Street, Pittsfield.    CHP's mobile health unit, the?"Big Orange Bus,"?will administer Pfizer and Moderna bivalent boosters, COVID vaccines for those age six months and older, and flu vaccines.   To schedule an appointment, call (413) 528-0457. Walk-ins are also welcome.    Vaccines are given free of charge; bring insurance cards.

Pittsfield Council Queries Superintendent on Fumes Evacuation Incident

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The emergency dismissal of the city's two high schools last month because of floor refinishing fumes was because of a miscommunication, said superintendent of schools.   On Tuesday, city councilors expressed displeasure with how the school district handled it, quizzing Superintendent Joseph Curtis on the matter.   "My phone rang zero times about tax rate, multiple times about the gym floors," Councilor at Large Earl Persip III said.   And Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowksy said the excuses "sounds like a blame game and no one took ownership."    Pittsfield and Taconic High were evacuated before noon on Nov. 18

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for the Santa Toy Fund Saturday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Running Center will be hosting the Jingle Bell Walk/Run this Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10 am.   This untimed, holiday event is a fundraiser for the Eagle Santa Toy Fund.    Participants are asked to join and festive holiday costumes are encouraged. Pittsfield Man Sentenced to Prison in U.S. Capitol Breach

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A city man has been sentenced to prison for his actions at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.    Troy Sargent, 38, was sentenced Monday in the District of Columbia to 14 months in prison for felony charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol, civil disorder, and four related misdemeanor offenses, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.   Sargent pleaded guilty on June 27, 2022, to all six charges against him.   He and others' actions disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to

Pittsfield, Williamstown Developments to Receive Housing Tax Credits

1Berkshire Annual Meeting Returns in Person, Touts Growth

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With tourism rebounding after the COVID-19 pandemic and a healthy budget and membership base, 1Berkshire is looking into the future with optimism.

STOW—The Baker-Polito Administration announced $5 million in grant awards to 308 fire departments from the FY23 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.   In Berkshire County Adams, Dalton, Great Barrington, Lanesborough, Lee, Lenox, New Ashford, New Marlborough, North Adams, Peru, Pittsfield, Richmond, Sheffield, Stockbridge, and Williamstown all received grants.   "We ask so much of our firefighters, and no matter how dangerous or difficult the situation, they always do whatever it takes to help," said Governor Charlie Baker. State Fire Marshal: Dec. 12 is Candle Safety Day

STOW, Mass. —Candle Safety Day is observed on the second Monday of December, and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey is reminding residents to follow safety guidelines as we enter the period when most candle fires start.   "There have been more than 1,000 candle fires in Massachusetts over the past 10 years," State Fire Marshal Ostroskey said.
