 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In its first major exhibition on contemporary Asian art, "A Spirit of Gift, A Place of Sharing" is a campus-wide exhibition opening May 30 at Hancock Shaker Village. The exhibition features three artists—Yusuke Asai of Japan, Kimsooja of Korea, and Pinaree Sanpitak of Thailand – who explore links between 19th-century Shaker art and contemporary Asian art. This is the third time in the last 30 years that Hancock Shaker Village has explored a connection between Asian aesthetics and the very American religious utopian Shaker movement. Baker's Golf Center opens for its 79th season on Wednesday after getting some upgrades and renovations. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Slightly delayed but better than ever, Baker's Golf Center is set to tee off its 2022 season on Wednesday with all new amenities for its driving range and miniature golf clientele. Owner Debbie Storie and her staff have been working furiously to get the center ready for opening day even as a contractor puts the finishing touches on the new structure that covers the driving range bay. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police arrested 27-year-old Myles Handy near the Big Y Monday after they reportedly found a loaded, unlicensed gun on him. On Monday, May 23 at approximately 3:30 PM, Officer Ansy Jumeau was patrolling the parking lot of the Big Y Supermarket located at 200 West St. There, he observed a man, later identified as 27-year-old Myles Handy, attempting to conceal an object in the front of his pants. As he passed the officer, the officer observed the outline of a firearm handle from inside Handy's t-shirt. The former Papa Gino's on Merrill Road closed after nearly a half-century in business. The location will reopen as a Mexican restaurant. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two new restaurants are on the horizon for the city. The Licensing Board on Monday approved the transfer of a seven-day all-alcohol license from Portsmitt's Lakeway Restaurant to Old Man Jeff's, which will be run by Jeffrey Yeager, the former assistant vice president of planning and reporting at Guardian Life Insurance Co. The board also approved a seasonal all-alcohol restaurant license application for El Habanero Mexican Grill, which plans to open in the former Papa Gino's on Merrill Road.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Community Development Board wants to learn more about the impact of short-term rentals in the city before creating a regulation or governing ordinance for them. In March, the Ordinances and Rules subcommittee referred a petition to the board that requested an investigation of claims concerning Airbnbs in the neighborhood of Ridge Avenue.
The council asked for a response by June with an expectation that they would give guidance on a process for short-term rentals yet the board is hesitant to take action without all of the information in front of them.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are investigating a Congress Street shooting that left a city man with life-threatening injuries. On Saturday May 21 at approximately 10:45 PM, Pittsfield Police Patrol Units responded to house on Congress Street for a reported shooting victim. According to police, officers found a 24 year old man suffering from a gunshot wound, and they began rendering aid. Pittsfield Fire Department and County Ambulance responded to the scene and provided medical aid prior to transporting the victim to BMC with life threatening injuries.
