$10 Million Site 9 Redevelopment Now Fully FundedBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Shovels will soon be in the ground of a parcel commonly referred to as a "moonscape" and "scar." On Wednesday, Feb. 15, it was announced that the gap in funding for the $10.8 million Site 9 redevelopment has been closed. The last mile of funding includes $400,000 of Pittsfield Economic Development Authority foundation funds, $1.3 million in GE landscaping funds, and $4.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds. The project will go out to bid in the spring with an expectation of construction beginning over the summer. Substantial completion could be seen in 2024.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city has officially said "yes" to police surveillance.
The City Council on Tuesday approved a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises Inc. for body-worn cameras and dashboard cameras.
Councilors also accepted a grant of funds in the amount of $166,586.73 from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to support the program.
Police Chief Michael Wynn explained that the department decided to add the dashboard cameras in the middle of the pilot that began late last year and ends at the beginning of the contract.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Bike lanes incited a charter objection in the council chambers on Tuesday.
It is unclear what is happening with Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowsky's petition to put a question on the Nov. 7 ballot that, if approved, returns North Street to four lanes of traffic and remove the bike lanes.
Kalinowsky says a vote taken last month secured it on the ballot but her colleagues are unsure if that is true.
It was brought back to the City Council on Tuesday after being referred to City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta. After some debate over semantics, Councilor at Large Earl Persip III put the conversation to a screeching halt with a charter objection.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Cable Advisory Committee wants more information on pricing before choosing an attorney for the Spectrum contract renewal.
On Thursday, the panel interviewed two candidates, Stoneham attorney William Solomon and Boston attorney William Hewig, and voted to push the decision to a special meeting this week. Both specialize in cable negotiations.
Solomon offered a rate of $200 per hour and Hewig, $300 per hour and $150 per hour for the paralegal. Committee members would like an estimate of the total fees so they can make a well-informed decision on legal services.
That recommendation will go to Mayor Linda Tyer and City Council.

State Sen. Paul Mark's new district office is located in an area of Tyler Street seeing significant redevelopment. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — State Sen. Paul Mark has chosen Tyler Street as the home of his district office, as an accessible, central location to hear from constituents.
Over the weekend, the space at 773 Tyler St. opened to the public. Combined with the fixed location will be roving office hours throughout Berkshire, Hampshire, and Franklin counties.
For Mark, being there for all 57 cities and towns that he represents is a high priority.

 LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Residents will vote on the new public safety building's location at a special meeting on March 1.
Police Station Building Committee Chair Kristen Tool told the Select Board on Monday that it is important to have the special meeting at this time to secure funding for the nearly $6 million build at 405 South Main St.
The window for grant opportunities closes in March and that could extend the search for funding into another year if missed, Tool reported.

DALTON, Mass. — The Central Berkshire Regional School District is looking at a $1 million budget increase for fiscal 2024. The School Committee on Thursday gave initial approval to an operating budget of $30,078,694 that is up 3.42 percent, or $994,646, from this year's $29,084,048. The approved tentative capital budget, as recommended by the finance subcommittee, is $2,110,239. This is down $51,354 over this year, or about 2.4 percent. Together, they total about a 3 percent increase over this year.
