PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Starting on Monday, April 15, street improvements continue. Work for the week of April 15 consists of: April 15: Paving the first course on South Onota Street & South John Street April 16: Paving the first course on West Union Street, Acorn Street & Mohegan Street April 17: Finishing first course on Mohegan Street & pave first course on Sherrill Avenue April 18: Paving the first course on Montgomery Avenue Extension In addition, raising structures on South Onota Street, South John Street, West Union Street and Acorn Street will occur April 16 to April 19.  Monday, April 15, is Patriots Day, a state holiday marking the anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord that began the American Revolution. The day has been celebrated on the third Monday in April since 1969.
It was on the morning of April 20, 1775, that Paul Revere and other riders began the alert across and beyond Massachusetts Colony that troops were planning to advance from Boston to the towns of Lexington and Concord. They were to seize a cache of gunpowder and arms and capture revolutionaries Sam Adams and John Hancock. (Local legend claims that Israel Bissell, later of Hinsdale, rode all the way to Philadelphia, but most historians dismiss it.)

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Fall Senior Golf series returns in September with events on five consecutive Wednesdays starting Sept. 18. It is the 22nd year of the series, which is a fund-raiser for junior golf in the county, and it is open to players aged 50 and up. The series will feature two divisions for each event based on the combined ages of the playing partners. Golfers play from the white tees (or equivalent) with participants 70 and over or who have a handicap of more than 9 able to play from the forward tees. DALTON, Mass. — The Green Committee clarified the scope of the Climate Action Plan during its meeting last week to include climate-related hazard mitigation as one of its priorities. The primary focus of the request for proposals for the development of an action plan to achieve net zero by 2050 was decarbonization. Climate mitigation was included in the document but was not considered a priority. The deadline for the RFP is April 24.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Community and Economic Development subcommittee has supported tax incentives for the rehabilitation of the Wright Building and the former Jim's House of Shoes.
The committee on Monday unanimously voted in favor of a 10-year tax increment exemption agreement for 229-237 North St. and 239-261 North St. for Allegrone Construction Co.'s $18 million overhaul of the properties.
"Thank you for bringing this proposal forward," committee member Alisa Costa said to the developers.
"I know you have been very patient with the timing and I know the community is really eager to see something happen with this building."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A proposed kayak rental kiosk at Onota Lake has triggered concern from city councilors and community members. The City Council on Tuesday referred a petition from residents Daniel Miraglia and Gene Nadeau requesting a legal opinion on Whenever Watersports' kayak rental program to City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta. In December, the Parks Commission granted a request for the pilot program, and the solicitor has been reviewing and revising a proposed contract that has not yet been approved.

 DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District is anticipating a budget of $3,516,650 for fiscal year 2025, an increase of $820,196 from last year. The increased funding is an effort to improve the district's Property Protection Classification, Fire Chief Christian Tobin told the Water Commissioners meeting last Wednesday in presenting his three-year strategic plan. It also includes hikes in insurance, competitive wages and stipends, personnel and training, education and recertification, and building improvements.
