PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community Legal Aid will be holding an information session on Eviction Sealing to help eligible residents of Berkshire County learn how to seal their eviction records. Community Legal Aid is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services annually to over 700 low- income and elderly residents of Berkshire County. The information session will be led by Community Legal Aid Housing Law Attorney Angelina Morisi and is open to the public. It will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the Berkshire Athenaeum, located at 1 Wendell Ave., in the Athenaeum Room. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Medical Center earned a new "A" Hospital Safety Grade for the fall of 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Environmental Action Team is seeking letter support from the Board of Health on peaker plants and the need to decarbonize them. Peaking power plants — also known as peaker plants — run when there is a high demand for electricity. Facilities on Woodland Road in Lee and Doreen Street in Pittsfield were shut down in 2022 and have been removed entirely, with usable parts auctioned off. The remaining is Pittsfield Generating Co., owned by Hull Street Energy. The gas-powered plant is over 30 years old and runs less than 5 percent of the time, during "peak" hours. Mount Greylock Regional School graduate Kate Swann capped her college cross country career last month by leading Williams College a second-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships in South Carolina. Swann, a captain on the Williams squad this fall, posted a time of 21 minutes, 41 seconds on the 6-kilometer course to earn all-America honors as an individual. Additional updates will be shared on a weekly basis. The sewer lining will be replaced in several locations as outlined in the schedule below during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each weekday. The vote was taken last week by the BRTA Advisory Board during its discussion of its fiscal year 2025 supplemental grant of $724,000 from the state Department of Transportation. Some $14,000 of the grant will go toward making non-ADA rides fare free starting in December and going through June. This will give seniors in rural areas transportation, which is currently not fare free. BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is alerting the public to a scam circulating currently which involves texts stating a person owes money for outstanding motor vehicle violations and that the individual should contact the RMV immediately. The RMV will never text residents looking for payment for fines or for transactions. The RMV only accepts payments in-person or on the official RMV website: www.mass.gov/RMV. "Scam artists often create urgency to manipulate members of the public into paying fees which are fraudulent and we urge everyone to be vigilant when they receive a communication stating they owe money,"
