BFAIR's First Summer Kick-Off Festival

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On June 11, Berkshire Family And Individual Resources (BFAIR) will host its first Summer Kick-Off Festival at the Paterson Field House at Berkshire Community College.   The event will be held from 11 am 3 pm.   There will be a mini-golf tournament, live music, games, activities, raffles, prizes, food trucks and more.   The Paterson Field House is located at 1350 West Street in Pittsfield.   Patrons can support the BFAIR mission of "providing quality services to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and acquired brain injury while kicking off the summer with some fun," according to a press

Storms In Store For Solid Sound Weekend

It is a busy weekend in North County with the Solid Sound Music Festival opening its gates Friday and Memorial Day ceremonies Monday.    Hopefully, the weather cooperates.   Thursday, May 26, will be a cloudy spring day with temperatures in the mid-70s but come Friday, temperatures will creep up into the 80s with showers and thunderstorms expected.   Expect high humidity and cloud cover throughout the day. Pittsfield: Partial Closure of North Street Next Week

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Due to construction work by the YMCA, the northbound side of North Street between Summer and Melville streets will be closed beginning Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3.   The closure is required to accommodate a large crane that will be lifting steel into the YMCA's new court and track area that are being renovated.   Traffic will be rerouted to Summer Street. Crosswalks will remain open at Summer and Melville streets.   There will be no impacts to traffic (pedestrian or vehicular) traveling southbound on North Street.

Pittsfield Postpones School Intruder Drills After Texas Shooting

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Superintendent Joseph Curtis postponed active intruder drills that were scheduled this week out of respect for those who were killed in a mass school shooting in Texas on Tuesday.   Nineteen children and two teachers lost their lives when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire on a fourth-grade classroom at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.   An emotional School Committee on Wednesday called for gun control and mental health support.    "The amount of courage that it took for our teachers and our kids and our parents to come to school today is miraculous," said Mayor Linda Tyer.   Chair William Cameron opened the meeting with a moment

Pittsfield Council Mulls Mental-Health Responder Solutions

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mental health supports were a reoccurring topic at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.

The panel took up three new petitions that strive to answer the community's ask for improved responders for residents who are in crisis. The city's deficiency of mental health responders was brought to light after Miguel Estrella died at the hands of Pittsfield Police in late March.

During open microphone, residents also said the city's nearly $12 million police budget, which was passed last week, needs to reflect such efforts.

Hancock Shaker Village Contemporary Asian Art Exhibit
