PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. is holding a photo challenge to find the photo that best captures the theme downtown Pittsfield "Heart of the Berkshires." Entrants are encouraged to capture photos that showcase the beauty and personality of downtown Pittsfield, keeping in mind the theme "Heart of the Berkshires". Creativity is encouraged. The first-place winner, as determined by a panel of local judges, will have their photo featured in Pittsfield's 2023 Downtown Guide and a Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. social marketing campaign. The tracks in downtown Pittsfield will see the arrival of the first Berkshire Flyer passenger train on July 8. Sen. Adam Hinds has also been pushing for high-speed rail service between Western and eastern Massachusetts. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshires will be directly connected next month to New York City through passenger rail service for the first time in more than 50 years. After five years of planning, the Berkshire Flyer will begin transporting people from New York's Penn Station to Pittsfield via Albany-Rensselaer in New York on July 8. Officials are celebrating this as an economic development project that will enhance one of the county's key sectors:

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Music School (BMS) announced the return of Adventures in Music, a program for youth this summer. Designed for young music lovers, Adventures in Music gives budding musician a foundation in making music in a fun, engaging atmosphere. Participants will enjoy group classes in world music, chorus, puppetry, and creative movement on the tented lawn of BMS's historic campus, as well as small group workshops in piano, percussion, opera, and visual arts interpretation. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town's retired police chief, Timothy Sorrell, has been elected to a three-year term on the Select Board after winning Tuesday's annual town election. Sorrell won 407-253 over incumbent Gordon Hubbard. Sorrell, who served the department for 28 years before spending another six as chief, is also a member of the Police Station Building Committee and was recently appointed as a special police officer in Adams. DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board has decided to reduce spending on the Town Hall renovation project and "revision" what it should look like. The board voted Tuesday to postpone Article 2 on next week's special town meeting warrant that would have authorized an additional $100,000 be added to the $500,000 Town Hall budget. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Firefighters responded to a minor fire at 124-126 Appleton Ave that caused fire and smoke damage in a first-floor apartment. Firefighters responded to the fire on Monday, June 22 at 12:30 am on. The caller reported that the two-story, four-family home was filling up with smoke. Upon arrival, the inhabitants were actively evacuating. Firefighters were directed to a downstairs apartment to find a resident who was not answering pleas to evacuate. Martha Escobar with her daughter, Deisy, who does a Spanish-English radio show with her on Pittsfield Community Radio. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College student Martha Escobar has been honored with this year's 29 Who Shine Award for her work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and with the immigrant community. Escobar recently graduated from BCC with an associate degree in psychology and will go on to study social work at Elms College in Chicopee. On top of her studies, she works at the Elizabeth Freeman Center as a bilingual counselor and hosts a weekly show called "Mundo Latino" on Pittsfield Community Radio. She founded the

The 8-year-old boy was recently cleared of cancer after a more than six-month battle with a rare form of leukemia As a second-grade student of Allendale and the son of a PHS teacher, the schools saw no better way to welcome him home than with a celebration at both. Distributive Education Clubs of America Inc. prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, with collegiate chapters around the world. The Newton college's DECA chapter competed at the Massachusetts DECA Association's regional qualifying competition in February, and sent a cohort of seven students to the organization's International Career Development Conference in Baltimore. The recipients follow: The Saint Anselm College Book Award goes to a junior who exercises a capacity for academic achievement and qualities in the areas of civic engagement and social responsibility. This award goes to Josiah Hylton. The RIT Award is given to a junior or juniors who demonstrate high academic promise. Dre Finley gives a spoken word performance. See more photos here. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Durant Park was alive with the city's first official Juneteenth celebration on Sunday. "This was our Independence Day because we know that July 4th didn't include everybody," Berkshire NAACP President Dennis Powell said. "And so that's why we celebrate."
The event was a collaborative effort between various Black organizations in Berkshire County. It included around 20 booths offering food, hand-crafted items, and children's games. This was accompanied by performances throughout the day.
