MassWildlife: Three ways to prevent conflict during coyote mating season

Late January through early March is coyote mating season. Coyotes are very active during the winter while courting mates and defending their territory. Coyotes are in every city and town in mainland Massachusetts, meaning the opportunity for human-coyote interaction is high. The mere presence of a coyote is not a cause for concern. MassWildlife officials are reminding the public to take these 3 simple steps to prevent conflict with coyotes during the mating season:

BCC Announces Faculty, Staff Members, Title Changes

Habitat & Taconic CTE Students Build Pittsfield Home

The students had to do some snow clearing Thursday before they could start on the roof trusses. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Taconic CTE students will be able to say "I built that house" when they pass 37 Curtis Terrace. 

On Thursday, roof trusses were set on the home that Taconic High School students are partnering with  Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity to build. This is one of several homes the nonprofit housing organization has recently built, but a first for the young, skilled trades workers who were involved from the concrete pouring in October 2025. 

The stick-built, single-family ranch will have three bedrooms with a walkout in the back. The

Andre Lynch has transformed the former Lulu's on North Street into a bright and sunny space to serve his Caribbean cuisine. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dre's Global Kitchen is bringing the flavors of the Caribbean to North Street starting this weekend.   The new restaurant at 137 North St. is holding its grand opening on Friday and Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.    Owner and chef André Lynch said the cuisine is straight from his mom's cooking.   Deborah Burchell, a well-known chef and instructor in New York, grew up in Trinidad and learned to cook when she was little. Pittsfield Council Accepts $2.3M to Support Housing Projects

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is making inroads with affordable and supportive housing, and planning for more units.

City Council has accepted a total of $2.3 million in state funds to support upcoming housing developments as the permanent supportive apartments on West Housatonic Street are preparing to open next month. 

And last week, The First's housing resource center had a soft opening at Zion Lutheran Church.  ServiceNet, which operates the center, had planned to be open Tuesday through Saturday for the next few weeks to onboard staff, but that has since changed.

Victim in Fatal Dragging Identified as Pittsfield Man

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are searching for a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run on Tuesday.    The victim was identified on Wednesday as William S. Colbert, 69, of Pittsfield.   His body was found nearly four miles away from where he was reportedly struck.    The initial report was that someone was in the road, possibly struck by a motor vehicle, at the intersection of Linden Street and Francis Avenue at about 11:33 p.m.   According to the report filed by Sgt. David Hallas, officers were unable to locate either a victim or a vehicle at the intersection. They spoke with witnesses and canvassed the area.    They found him in the road in the 1350
