Man Sentenced To 30 Years in Prison for Carnevale Shooting | 02:52PM / Wednesday, June 01, 2022 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Judge Maureen Hogan sentenced Luis Delvalle-Rodriguez to serve 25 to 30 years in state prison and five years of probation afterward for shooting Nicholas Carnevale on Aug. 21, 2018 at a party at the Ashley Reservoir on October Mountain. After a three-week jury trial, a Berkshire Superior Court Jury found the 27-year-old Delvalle-Rodriguez guilty last week of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed kidnapping with serious bodily injury, two counts of armed kidnapping, two counts of assault and battery, and malicious damage to a motor 0 Comments

Taconic High School Track Will Be Temporarily Closed| 12:10PM / Wednesday, June 01, 2022 | |
 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Beginning Thursday, June 2, the track at Taconic High School will be closed to community use due to repairs to the rubberized track surface. Work will continue through Sunday, June 5. While the track is not open to public use, arrangements have been made to accommodate specific student activities on portions of the track. Temperatures Today, Wednesday, June 1 should top out in the low 70s. Skies will be cloudy throughout the afternoon, and Accuweather predicts some rain this afternoon starting around 1 pm. The Weather Channel predicts that about a quarter of an inch of rain could fall. Possible thunderstorms with heavy winds in the afternoon are expected to begin around 6 pm. Temperatures will be in the low 80s Thursday with cloudy skies. Expect some rain in the afternoon. The Weather Channel predicts heavier rainfall overnight. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On the second day of the fiscal 2023 budget hearings last week, the City Council preliminary passed nine departmental budgets in an hour with just one suggested amendment. The councilors recommended that $1,000 be added to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program's $106,000 budget for volunteer recognition night, a motion that was made by Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick.
The proposed municipal operating budget is $99,900,752 and the proposed public school budget is $72,398,262, totaling a municipal operating budget of $172,299,014.

Let's Go Paperless | This is from Ward 6 Councilor John Krol's eblast today. His switch to digital immediately caught our attention. With the associated costs - nearly $4,000 a year for paper alone! - zipping councilors "the packet" (as we in the know like to call it) over the ether makes loads of sense.
Digital also means the average citizen gets far better access to these public documents than ever before. The city clerk's office has been diligent about posting meeting agendas and, where possible, relevant documents. So in terms of saving money and time and getting information out efficiently, digital is the way to go.
I would like to thank City Clerk Linda Tyer for agreeing to print out one less city council packet, as I have officially gone paperless for council meetings - which I hope will be a trend that can be extended throughout city government.
 The bulky (and often, very bulky) city council packet that councilors use for a reference costs an average of $170 per meeting for paper alone. Add the additional costs of ink/toner, wear and tear on city hall copiers, and the time and energy of staff who put it all together - and a simple transition away from paper benefits everyone.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.
