Pittsfield Subcommittee Supports Election Pay, Veterans Parking, Wetland OrdinancesBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Ordinances and Rules subcommittee on Monday unanimously supported a pay raise for election workers, free downtown parking for veterans, and safeguards to better protect wetlands.
Workers will have a $5 bump in hourly pay for municipal, state and federal elections, rising from $10 an hour to $15 for inspectors, $11 to $16 for clerks, and $12 to $17 for wardens.
"This has not been increased in well over a decade," City Clerk Michele Benjamin told the subcommittee, saying the rate has been the same throughout the past 14 years she has been in the office.

The event aims to raise funds for the UCPWMA Assistive Technology PATCH Scholarship Fund. HOWL 2 Go Dueling Pianos features two musicians performing popular songs while engaging with the audience. Attendees can request songs, and bids are accepted for song selections. The event is made possible through a partnership with the Dell-Reconnect residential recycling program. Accepted items include monitors, scanners, computer mice, printers, keyboards, laptop batteries, ink and toner cartridges, computers, hard drives, speakers, cords, and cables.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A parking study of North Street will be presented at Tuesday's City Council meeting. The design maintains parallel parking while expanding pedestrian zones and adding protected bike lanes. The city, by request, has studied parking and bike lane opportunities for North Street and come up with the proposal staged for implementation next year. While the request was to evaluate angle parking configurations, it was determined that it would present too many trade-offs such as impacts on emergency services, bike lanes, and pedestrian spaces.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hundreds gathered at the Proprietor's Lodge on Friday to celebrate senior volunteerism. In 2023, 288 Retired Senior Volunteer Program members worked a total of 36,674 hours at about 60 stations across the county. Director Lisa Torrey said she was so proud of each volunteer and the difference they make in the local community.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After decades of planning, the city hopes to break ground on Phase 1 of Pontoosuc Lake Park's revitalization this summer.
The Parks Commission last week approved an updated design for the project that has been awarded a $500,000 matching grant from the state Executive Office of Energy Environmental Affairs.
Commissioners spoke fondly of the vision.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council agenda on Tuesday includes water and sewer rates as well as a proposed change to the schedule and calculation for predictability and fair pricing. For fiscal year 2025, Mayor Peter Marchetti has proposed water and sewer rate hikes of 8 percent each.
This would raise the average water bill for one toilet by about $24 per year, rising from $295.52 in FY24 to $322.44, and the average sewer bill by about $30, rising from $378.80 in FY24 to $409.12. The annual bill would total around $732.
Additional toilets would rise from about $149 in FY24 to about $161 for water and about $190 in FY24 to about $205 for sewer, totaling about $366
