Berkshire Bike Path Council President Marge Cohan addresses bikers at the event. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Clad in helmets and bright colors, more than 20 people gathered in Park Square to kick on Berkshire Bike Month on Wednesday.
The month of May will be stacked with bicycle-centered events throughout the county — beginning with an eight-mile loop from the city's center that ends at Hot Plate Brewing Co.
"We have we have a lot of things going on in Pittsfield for bicycles and for safety," Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales said.
"We're not anywhere near where we should be. We have a lot of work to do."

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Monday, May 6 marks the start of phase two for the spring flushing schedule of the City of Pittsfield's water system. Water mains throughout the city will be flushed through hydrants over the next several weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products. Mains will be flushed Monday through Friday each week, except holidays, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. This phase of flushing is expected to occur between May 6 through May 10. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The cable contract renewal process is moving along with negotiations on the horizon.
The Cable Advisory Committee last week authorized the forwarding of a request for response of ascertainment, or a request for proposal, to Charter Spectrum. This concludes the ascertainment process and moves toward negotiations.
Member Shawn Serre explained that this is a motion to authorize the chair to take a document being formulated by outside counsel to the mayor's office so that it can be submitted to the cable provider to kick off negotiations.
