Great Barrington, Adams 12-Year-Olds Earn Narrow Wins in Little League Tourney

ADAMS, Mass -- The Great Barrington 12-year-old All-Stars executed a rundown to stop a runner attempting to score on a whild pitch in the sixth inning to secure a 5-4 win over the Pittsfield Little League National Division in the Don Gleason District 1 Championship on Friday night.   Finn Mason earned the win on the mound by throwing 4-two-thirds innings. Trevor Leonard picked up the save.   Johnny Ireland and Levi Martin each had a hit for Great Barrington.   Kalvin Phillips had a two-run single for the Nats who got a triple from Ruben Freed and a strong performance from Kevin Smith on the mound.   In Friday's late game, hosts Adams-Cheshire defeated

Pittsfield Back in 'Yellow Zone' for COVID-19 Transmission

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Following the holiday weekend, the city has dipped into the yellow incidence rate for COVID-19 transmission.

On Tuesday, the percent positivity rate was 4.3, down from 5.3 last week. To be in the yellow zone, a community must have 10 or fewer average cases per 100,000 people or have a 5 percent or less positivity rate.

The average case rate was 29.1 on Tuesday, a metric that has stayed rather steady since mid-June.

The city is still close to the red zone, which is categorized by having equal to or more than 10 average cases per 100,000 and having a five percent or higher positivity rate in a 14-day period.

Pittsfield Looks into the Future of Wahconah Park

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is embarking on a more than $3 million capital improvement plan for historic Wahconah Park with a restoration committee and a promise of federal funds.

The City Council voted at its June 28 meeting to establish a Wahconah Park Restoration Committee.  

The nine-member committee will assess the current condition of the 75-year-old facility, solicit public input, recommend the specifics of the repairs, and make recommendations to the city on the hiring of project agents.

In April it was announced that grandstand seating would not be available this year because the steel structure was compromised.

Fields, Melle Lead Teams into Little League Tourney Title Games

Leah Melle and Kaelyn Fields led their respective Little League baseball teams to championship games in the Don Gleason District 1 Tournaments on Thursday night.   Melle hit an inside-the-park home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth and give Dalton-Hinsdale’s 10-year-old All-Stars a 7-6 win over Great Barrington.   Fields went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and threw 3-? perfect innings to lead the Pittsfield National Division 11-year-olds to a 13-1 win over Great Barrington.   Those wins put the Dalton 10s and Pittsfield National 11s into Saturday’s title games – both against squads from the Pittsfield American Division.   The Pittsfield Americans played

The Biden administration is wrestling with whether to ease some of the Chinese import tariffs on billions of dollars of Chinese goods. If they do, it would mark the first step in reconciling the trade differences between the world's two largest economies and could even nudge down the inflation rate.   The trade war is now over four years old and substantial tariffs remain. Return of Pittsfield's Summer Playground Program

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield Department of Community Development Recreation Program has announced the return of the Parks Summer Playground Program at three city parks for six weeks beginning Monday, July 11.   The Summer Playground Program offers a variety of recreation activities for Pittsfield children ages 6 to 13 free of charge.   Playground leaders create safe, supervised and fun-filled environments with activities including sports, games, arts and crafts, and nature activities.   Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sheriff Candidates Answer Community's Questions at Forum

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The candidates for Berkshire County sheriff answered questions from the community in a forum held by the Berkshire County NAACP, the League of Women Voters, and the ACLU of Massachusetts on Wednesday.

Incumbent Thomas Bowler and his challenger Alf Barbalunga were queried on the interworkings of the office and their stances on national issues related to the position during the Zoom event.

Pittsfield Squads Roll Up Double-Digit Wins
