By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff
08:46AM / Tuesday, March 26, 2024

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mayor Peter Marchetti won't support the sacrifices a level-funded city budget would entail but is willing to compromise.

Early in the term, the City Council supported a divisive petition requesting a budget that is "close to level-funded" due to concerns about tax increases. This would come with cuts to employment and city services, the mayor warned, but the administration is working to create a proposal that is "between level funded and a level service funded."

"As all of you remember, only seven days into my term of office I was presented a petition looking for a level-funded budget," Marchetti said during his biweekly

Each of the appraisals cost $2,500 a piece.    Unless the owners agree to donate the easements, the town has to get them appraised and pay fair market value, Hutcheson said.    The owner

Letter to the Editor,
03:00PM / Monday, March 25, 2024

To the Editor:

This letter was ignored by the Berkshire Eagle

Friday, March 8, was International Women's Day. Here in the Berkshires, it was celebrated by the Zonta club, an International Women's Leadership organization, by honoring six dynamic women from our community at a special dinner that attracted over 200 attendees.

This diverse group of women has made monumental contributions from coaching young professionals to build careers here to providing over two million diapers to those in need. These women aren't CEOs of big corporations and they didn't develop the latest app. They excelled by giving their time, skills and in most cases their own money for the benefit and

By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff
06:10PM / Sunday, March 24, 2024
DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Health will collaborate with the building department to modify the demolition guidelines checklist.    The current checklist does not clearly outline the board's responsibilities when approving a demolition or the items the board is responsible for, Health Agent Agnes Witkowski said.    The building inspector suggested that the board adopt the checklist, which came from another town.   Previous board members approved adopting it in 2022 but since then people have been directed to go to the Board of Health regarding demolitions.
