RSVP of Berkshire County Meet-and-Greet

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Berkshire County will host a meet-and-greet event 1-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 16 Bartlett Ave.   "This is an opportunity for us to share with members of the public the exciting work that we're doing in the city of Pittsfield and throughout Berkshire County," said RSVP Director Lisa Torrey. General Dynamics Seeks Small-Business Connections

Congressman Neal says there are more than 133,000 Massachusetts residents employed by small businesses in the state. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — General Dynamics Mission Systems gathered around 75 small businesses and professional organizations at the Berkshire Innovation Center on Monday for a day of making connections.

The event titled "Innovating for The Future" sought to expand the company's supply chain in the state and further GD's relationship with the community by strengthening the local industrial sector.

Developers Pursue Duplex Project with Affordable Component for Former Williamstown Grange Site

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The owner of the former Grange Hall property on Water Street is looking to develop more than 20 sustainable, energy-efficient homes with a quarter of the owner-occupied units set aside for residents earning up to 80 percent of the area median income.   Last week, Alexander Carlisle appeared before the board of the town's Affordable Housing Trust to seek its support for the project in anticipation of an approval process that will involve the town waiving zoning regulations to allow the development.   Carlisle and his wife purchased the 6.6-acre 584 Water St. property in 2005 with hopes of renovating the historic structure after it no longer served

Dalton Voters OK Articles at Special Town Meeting

DALTON, Mass. — Fewer than a dozen voters at Monday's special town meeting took only 10 minutes to pass the two articles on the warrant.    Article 1 was amended to include an additional $4,000 to cover trash removal from Town Hall, the senior center, garage, and park, based on a recent contract proposal with Casella.     This addition brought the total amount for Article 1 to $12,643, of which $8,6324 will pay sewer and debt expenses that were not anticipated for the annual town meeting.    Article 3 transfers $2,066 from free cash to the Miscellaneous Grants account to cure a deficit.   Of this amount, $1,436 will be used for an

Belanger Film Screens Tuesday Evening in Cheshire

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Baseball in the Berkshires museum Tuesday evening will offer a free screening of "Belanger: Big Time Ball Player - Small Town Story" at the Cheshire Community Center.   The 70-minute film chronicles the career of Pittsfield native Mark Belanger, an eight-time Gold Glove Award winner with the Baltimore Orioles and 1970 World Series champion.   The doors open at 6 p.m., and the screening will begin at about 6:30.   Tuesday's event will feature special guest Al Belanger, Mark's brother.   The screening is being held in conjunction with "Spreading Baseball Across Adams and Cheshire," a special temporary exhibit from Baseball

Pittsfield Rallies for Reproductive Rights

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nearly 200 people gathered at Park Square on Sunday in solidary with reproductive rights and to mourn the Supreme Court's overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

BCC to Host Admissions Info Sessions

Route for Sept. 24 Tour De Greylock Bike Ride Finalized

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Economic Development Committee is in the final stages of planning the first annual Tour de Greylock bike ride, which will take cyclists through six communities navigating the base of Mount Greylock. 

 

The committee discussed Thursday the final 41-mile route that will take riders through Lanesborough, New Ashford, Williamstown, Adams, North Adams and Cheshire. The inaugural event, which has been in planning for several months, is slated to begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 24, with the ride's start and end points at the Berkshire Mall.

Maggie Harrington-Esko Tapped as PHS Principal

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After working in many different positions at Pittsfield High School for more than 16 years, Maggie Harrington-Esko has been tapped as the new principal.

She will replace Henry Duval, who is retiring in the fall after nearly 30 years in public education.

Esko began her career at the high school in September 2006 as a social studies teacher, during which she also acted as a teacher leader, mentor, and adviser.

After 11 years in the classroom, Esko was hired to the administrative team where she had multiple titles. Over the last five years, she has been dean of students, vice principal, assistant principal of teaching and learning, and interim

Audit Finds Cultural Council Dedicated COVID-19 Funds Without Verification

BOSTON — In an audit of the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), the Office of State Auditor Suzanne M. Bump (OSA) found that MCC did not verify artists' eligibility prior to issuing grants totaling $1,456,000 from MCC's COVID-19 pandemic relief funding.    The audit also found that MCC's Internal Control Plan (ICP) was not updated with a COVID-19 component. Additionally, the OSA found that MCC did not ensure all employees completed the required annual cybersecurity awareness training.
