PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city and other stakeholders say parking is a long-standing issue at Deming Park and want to address it with a larger, one-way parking lot. Abutters are skeptical.

Around 15 residents attended a public hearing for the proposed improvements to the park on Monday at Sacred Heart Church. It was facilitated by the Parks Commission and Ward 3 Councilor Kevin Sherman after a request from residents.

"We're here tonight because we're sort of pausing this effort to make certain that folks like you all have an opportunity to

The structure was down to its shell, and it was then rehabbed to new building code standards," said Dodds. "The completed house now complies with the city of Pittsfield's current energy codes. It is completely

LENOX, Mass. -- Hundreds of amateur athletes Sunday won the 46th Josh Billings Runaground Triathlon where, as the motto goes, "To finish is to win."   The day's fastest finishers featured familiar names as the four-man team from Allen Heights Veterinary was the first across the finish line at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, which took over this year from Tanglewood as the triathlon terminus.   As usual, teams headed out from downtown Great Barrington for a 27-mile bike ride to the boat launch at the Stockbridge Bowl, where pedalers gave way to paddlers for a 5-mile spring around the lake. The final leg of the event is a 6-mile run.   Athletes compete in teams of two, three or

Berkshire Humane Society Overloaded With Cats
By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff
06:16AM / Saturday, September 17, 2022

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Have you been considering welcoming a feline friend into your life? Now may be a good time.

The Berkshire Humane Society is overloaded with cats and kittens due to decreased spay-neuter surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The shelter currently has a wait list for cat surrenders and is discounting adoption fees for adult cats 7 months and older by 50 percent for the rest of the month.

Executive Director John Perreault said pet ownership boomed during the pandemic but during that time, the veterinary community got smaller with some vets leaving the profession and fewer entering it.

He clarified that the overcrowding has nothing to do with COVID-19 adoption

@theMarket: Consumer Price Index Triggers Market Decline
By Bill Schmick,
03:33PM / Friday, September 16, 2022
Sticky inflation, as represented by Tuesday's Consumer Price Index (CPI), caught most investors off guard. The resulting equity market rout drove the three main averages down over 4 percent. It was the worst market day in more than two years. Is the selling over?   I doubt it. The rampage lower spared few stocks. The dollar soared higher and most commodities as well as precious metals plummeted. That's what happens when you get everyone on one side of the rowboat.   Many analysts, traders, economists, and retail investors had bid up stocks in the days prior to the report in anticipation that the CPI would result in a cooler inflation print. The opposite happened and

Mass Taxpayers Getting Money Back
12:31PM / Friday, September 16, 2022
BOSTON — Taxpayers are expected to get more than 10 percent back of the income tax they paid into the state for last year.    Gov. Charlie Baker said Friday that state will be returning nearly $3 billion in excess revenue to taxpayers this November.    "Stronger-than expected state tax revenues have led to a major surplus for fiscal year 2022, and we are pleased to be able to return nearly $3 billion in excess revenue to the taxpayers," said the governor. "With families facing continued pressure from high prices and inflation, these returns will provide some needed relief. Even with nearly $3 billion going back to taxpayers, significant state
