DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board has decided to reduce spending on the Town Hall renovation project and "revision" what it should look like. The board voted Tuesday to postpone Article 2 on next week's special town meeting warrant that would have authorized an additional $100,000 be added to the $500,000 Town Hall budget. The funds had been to accommodate the unexpected expenses. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Firefighters responded to a minor fire at 124-126 Appleton Ave that caused fire and smoke damage in a first-floor apartment. Firefighters responded to the fire on Monday, June 22 at 12:30 am on. The caller reported that the two-story, four-family home was filling up with smoke. Upon arrival, the inhabitants were actively evacuating. Firefighters were directed to a downstairs apartment to find a resident who was not answering pleas to evacuate. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College student Martha Escobar has been honored with this year's 29 Who Shine Award for her work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and with the immigrant community. Escobar recently graduated from BCC with an associate degree in psychology and will go on to study social work at Elms College in Chicopee. On top of her studies, she works at the Elizabeth Freeman Center as a bilingual counselor and hosts a weekly show called "Mundo Latino" on Pittsfield Community Radio. She founded the

The 8-year-old boy was recently cleared of cancer after a more than six-month battle with a rare form of leukemia As a second-grade student of Allendale and the son of a PHS teacher, the schools saw no better way to welcome him home than with a celebration at both. Distributive Education Clubs of America Inc. prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, with collegiate chapters around the world. The Newton college's DECA chapter competed at the Massachusetts DECA Association's regional qualifying competition in February, and sent a cohort of seven students to the organization's International Career Development Conference in Baltimore. The recipients follow: The Saint Anselm College Book Award goes to a junior who exercises a capacity for academic achievement and qualities in the areas of civic engagement and social responsibility. This award goes to Josiah Hylton. The RIT Award is given to a junior or juniors who demonstrate high academic promise. Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) said cleanups make a considerable difference in the health of the Housatonic River and the wildlife that depends on it. Over the years, BEAT and Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) have collected an array of debris — including mattresses, shopping carts, inflatable pools, bicycles, televisions, tires, construction materials, metal barrels, and all kinds of everyday trash. "This was our Independence Day because we know that July 4th didn't include everybody," Berkshire NAACP President Dennis Powell said. "And so that's why we celebrate."
The event was a collaborative effort between various Black organizations in Berkshire County. It included around 20 booths offering food, hand-crafted items, and children's games. This was accompanied by performances throughout the day.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Residents may notice a couple of purple bike repair stations in the downtown area. They are called Fix It stations, and are part of the city's Bicycle Facilities Master Plan that aims to make the streets of Pittsfield multimodal. They are located on Wendell Avenue in front of the Berkshire Antheneum and on North Street in front of the Funky Pheonix. Bike riders can simply walk up to the public utility and fix a number of issues including flat tires and loose bolts with an air pump and tools attached to wires. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police say a boy was shot on Friday at about 10:09 p.m. in the 400 block of Tyer Street. The juvenile, a resident of Pittsfield, was taken to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment. His wounds were not considered life-threatening. According to police, they responded to a ShotSpotter activation that indicated multiple rounds had een fired. Officers located a victim and recovered ballistic evidence. The report does not say where the victm was found or details about his injuries.
