Dalton Traffic Commission Approves Special Permit for Nicholas Sand and Gravel

DALTON, Mass. — The Traffic Commission approved the renewal of Nichols Sand and Gravel's special permit for earth removal.    The company, located at 190 Cleveland Road, operates a gravel pit there.    The hours of operation will remain 7 to 4 p.m. The commission approved owner Paul Nichols' request to allow his trucks to depart the property in either direction.    Nichols has to apply for renewal of the special permit every year.    The previous permit required the truck to exit the property to the right. Former residents requested this stipulation nearly 16 years ago to reduce the number of trucks using the residential street to avoid

No Drought Conditions in Berkshire County

Dalton Town Employees Gets ADA Training

DALTON, Mass. — Municipal employees will have the option to participate in Americans with Disabilities Act training.    ADA coordinator Alyssa Maschino informed the ADA Committee on Monday that Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson approved the idea and is currently in the planning process.    The virtual training will cover state ADA requirements, ensuring program accessibility for people with disabilities, and the reasonable modification process.   The training is led by Julia O'Leary, general counsel for Massachusetts Office on Disability. Pittsfield's $80M School Budget Proposal 'Not Ideal,' Cuts Over 100 Employees

Marchetti Honors Pittsfield Athletes at City Council

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Tuesday's City Council meeting began with a roar as several high school athletes were honored for their accomplishments.

Mayor Peter Marchetti delivered proclamations to the Taconic High School hockey team and bowling team as well as an individual from the Pittsfield High School bowling team. Each excited a round of applause from students, friends, and families who filled council chambers.

"Tonight is a night of great pride for the city of Pittsfield when we can honor literally dozens of Pittsfield and Berkshire County youth for the good work they do," Marchetti said.

@theMarket: Sticky Inflation Slows Market Advance

February inflation data showed no progress on inflation. That follows the same kind of readings from the previous month. While two months does not make a trend, the disappointing numbers gave investors pause.   Both the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and its cousin, The Producer Price Index (PPI), came in warmer than economists had expected. Consumer prices rose 3.2 percent in February from a year earlier but were only slightly higher than economists' expectations of 3.1 percent. The PPI rose 1.6 percent year-over-year, which was the largest gain since last September. Temporary Traffic Interruptions Near Berkshire Medical Center

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Due to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) project to improve the intersections and traffic signals near Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) there will be impacts to traffic in this area throughout the duration of this project beginning on Monday, March 18.   While this work is underway, traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel on First Street (U.S. Route 7) and North Street between Burbank Street and Abbott Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday through at least May 6.   All BMC and Medical Arts Complex (MAC) parking areas remain open during construction. Barrington Stage To Hold Auditions for Local Teens

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Barrington Stage Company will hold auditions for local teens ages 13-19 for The Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Arts Education Fund's 2024 Devised Theatre Ensemble.   Auditions are March 23 at Barrington Stage's Wolfson Center, 122 North Street, from 10am-2pm. The day will start with a group warmup and audition, followed by individual auditions. Those auditioning should prepare a 16-bar cut from the musical theatre cannon. An accompanist is provided.
