 TRUMBULL, Conn. – Connor Paronto went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Morrie Fried homered Friday to lead the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars to a 14-0, five-inning win over Keene, N.H., in the New England Regional tournament. Fried’s two-run homer came in a four-run first-inning for Pittsfield, which put the game away with a five-run fifth inning. Jackson Almeida and Eddie Ferris each doubled in a 14-hit Pittsfield attack. Almeida and Andrew Hammill each went 3-for-4 at the plate. Hammill drove in three runs.  Given the price jump in gasoline, you would think owners of the corner gas station are raking in the money. Unfortunately, the opposite is occurring, especially now that pump prices have been declining for more than a month. "The national average price of a gallon of gasoline has dropped below $4.50 per gallon after touching $5 as recently as mid-June," according to Berkshire Money Management's Allen Harris. He goes on to say that despite the 10 percent decline, gas is still up 9.3 percent over the last three months.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city's plan to redesign Deming Park to address parking concerns has been met with concerns from nearby residents. They were heard at Tuesday's Parks Commission meeting after the City Council referred a petition from residents requesting a public hearing on the proposed changes to the panel. The commission voted to hold a public meeting on the topic.
Abutters were upset because they did not receive a notification about the project. The commissioners clarified that there was no effort to exclude the neighbors and said they welcome their input.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A body presumed to be 19-year-old Joshua Rodriguez was recovered from Silver Lake on Wednesday morning, a representative from the district attorney's office confirmed on Thursday. Multiple first-responder units searched the lake on Tuesday after receiving a report that someone had been in the lake around noon. The police did not identify Rodriguez as the person at that time. He had been reported missing on Tuesday. His body was found around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning by two people. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town's temporary police station at 545 South Main St. should be operational in early August and the Police Station Building Committee is looking into the former Skyline Country Club as a potential site for the future headquarters. In June, the Selectmen approved the use of $65,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds and a two-year lease for the space, which reportedly needed only minor technical and security work.
Police Chief Robert Derksen said Aug. 1 opening is a moving target, as there has been some delay with getting internet and phone. He plans to host an open house for the station in late August.

Seventy percent of Americans support safe and legal abortions. Abortion is health care, and is a basic human right that has been protected by Roe for the past 50 years. Yet this right has been rescinded by six radical, ultraconservative Supreme Court judges, three of whom were appointed by a president who failed to win the popular vote.
Maybe that 70 percent got too complacent and took this right for granted. But the lesson is learned: No constitutional right is safe any longer. Many of us are outraged by the court's decision that does not even allow for abortion in cases of rape or incest. But if we want our rights restored, outrage alone is not enough. We must do all
