 DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Water Commissioners on Wednesday voted to return to the town the balance left of American Rescue Plan Act funds allocated for a ladder ladder truck. "We appreciate the support and trust the Town of Dalton has consistently extended to our fire and emergency medical services. As stewards of public funds, we recognize the importance of responsible financial management," board Chair James Driscoll wrote to the Select Board.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Housing Development Corp. has a few projects in the pipeline and hopes to start construction soon. This includes 28 units of permanent and supportive housing on West Housatonic St., nine permanent supportive housing units on First St., and a housing resource center. All are supported by $6.5 million of the city's American Rescue Plan Act funds.
President and CEO Eileen Peltier also reported that Berkshire Housing has been on a journey to change its culture over the last three years.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city now has a body dedicated to tackling one of the most hard-hitting issues it faces.
At its last meeting, the City Council accepted a slate of appointments to the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Advisory Committee.
This was a campaign promise of Mayor Peter Marchetti, who met the goal of creating it in his first 90 days in office.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A spring storm brought rain and snow to the county along with service outages. On Wednesday and Thursday, the region saw wind, snow, sleet, and rain and is expected to get another round this evening, albeit not as significant. Spectrum customers began experiencing internet and cable outages on Wednesday afternoon, which were restored by the evening, and Eversource customers also experienced power outages.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Pittsfield's Commissioner of Public Works and Utilities Ricardo Morales said the city had a good response despite not having all contractors available.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mayor Peter Marchetti defended the city's tax rate on Tuesday, asking residents to look at all of the figures before making a judgment.
While Pittsfield ranked the highest tax rate countywide in fiscal 2024, the average bill ranked 10th. The administration also provided data showing that there has been a 37.9 percent increase in the value of single-family homes from FY20 to FY24 and a 6.4 percent decrease in the residential tax rate during this period.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Finance Committee on Monday supported a $650,000 borrowing under the Sewer Enterprise Fund for a connection to Herman Melville's Arrowhead.
The approximately 700-foot extension includes the installation of two deep manholes and will connect two properties to the city sewer. Construction will cost $500,000, a 20 percent contingency will cost $100,000, and the construction administration and resident engineer will cost $50,000.
