Love of T Foundation Marks 2023 Successes, Gears Up For Fundraiser

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 2023 was a robust year for the Love of T Foundation, dedicated to closing the gap in Berkshire County's behavioral health care.

After a year of connecting individuals with peer support and welcoming new staff members, the foundation is gearing up for its sold-out "Dance the Blues Away" gala on Saturday at the Berkshire Hills Country Club.

Last year, the event raised over $20,000 for the foundation's "Berkshire County Peer Connection," providing 230 hours of one-on-one peer support to 68 individuals navigating suicide.  This year, the goal is to provide 520 hours of peer support to 172 individuals.

Zonta Club of Berkshire County Offers Scholarship

LENOX, Mass. — Applications for the 2024 Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Berkshire County website, www.ZontaBerkshire.org.       The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program is to encourage young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman's commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the empowerment of women.    Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and to their community and the problems limiting the empowerment of women in their own country and worldwide.

Berkshire Communities Impacted By National Cellular Outages

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city made an announcement Thursday morning that with the nationwide cellular service outage, the city's parking meters are currently out of service.   Because of this, no parking tickets will be issued for meter violations today. All other parking regulations remain in effect.    The Associated Press reported Thursday morning that widespread outages have impacted AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Verizon, T-Mobile and other service providers.   Using data from Downdetector, the Associated Press reported that  AT&T had more than 64,000 outages in Houston, Atlanta and Chicago while Cricket Wireless had more than 13,000.   Verizon

Pittsfield Man Sentenced on Child Sexual Assault Charges

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Tuesday, Feb. 20, Lochan Kissoon, age 68, pleaded guilty to two counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14.   Kissoon was sentenced in Berkshire Superior Court by Judge Agostini. He was sentenced to 2 years in the House of Corrections. Upon release, Kissoon is ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 16 and to register as a sex offender.   He was charged in connection to a June 2021 incident when he sexually assaulted a minor. The owners of Marie’s North Street Eatery and Gallery hold a ribbon cutting recently.

PITTSFIELD, Mass.- Marie’s North Street Eatery and Gallery brings grab-and-go offerings to North Street in a revamped storefront.  White it has been open since December, a ribbon cutting was held last week as a formal debut. 

Owner Neil Davis wanted a place to “put my foot down in the community” while making social connections. Partner Ashley Marie handles the kitchen and menu curating, focusing on breakfast and lunch favorites.

Toy Library Coming to Pittsfield's Onota Lake

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A Wahconah High senior plans to build a toy library at Onota Lake Beach to foster community and benefit kids.

On Tuesday, the Park Commission supported Alexandra Bills' toy library proposal as part of her National Honors Society individual service project.  She hopes to see it come to fruition by April, utilizing donated materials and the help of her father for construction.

Pittsfield's Crosby Elementary Eyed For Combined School Site

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Crosby Elementary School is staged for a statement of interest that could open a revamped campus in 2029 as part of larger plans to restructure the district, 

Superintendent Joseph Curtis on Wednesday presented the details of a potential SOI to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for the elementary school that would combine Conte Community School and Crosby onto one campus with two buildings and shared facilities.

"We are cautious and saying if everything moves along as we would hope that we have the potential opening of a new school facility on the Crosby site in 2029," he said.
