Berkshire County Historical Society Writers Workshop Series | 08:47AM / Sunday, December 07, 2025 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. —The Berkshire County Historical Society will offer a six-session, six-genre writing series for writers of all levels and areas of interest beginning Dec. 20. The series is held one Saturday a month from 2-5 pm at Arrowhead, the historic home of Herman Melville. Fee for the workshop series is $350; participation is limited to twelve writers and participants are highly encouraged to attend every workshop. To reserve, email education@berkshirehistory.org.  Volunteers organize toys by age and gender in the House of Corrections storage facility. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Plenty of toys are on their way to children this holiday season thanks to Toys for Tots. Christopher Keegan has coordinated the local toy drive for the Berkshire Chapter of the Marine Corps Reserve since 2015 and said he has seen the need rise every year, last year helping more than 6,000 kids. "This is 11 years I've been doing it, and the need has gone up every year. It's gone up every year, and I anticipate it going up even more this year," Keegan said. Motorists are asked to avoid Holmes Road, Pomeroy Avenue and surrounding areas near Route 7. The highway between Holmes Road and the Lenox shopping plaza has been closed since about 6:30. Pittsfield Police say traffic is being rerouted off Route 7 and into neighborhood streets.
