MountainOne Donates $25,000 to Food and Fuel Assistance Organizations

Pittsfield Announces the 2025 Holiday parking schedule

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In celebration of the holiday season, the City of Pittsfield announced this year's free parking schedule.   Free parking this season will include "Free Parking Fridays" on Nov. 28, Dec. 5 and 12. There will also be free parking starting Monday, Dec. 15 through Friday, Dec. 26.   As always, parking in the city is free in the evenings and weekends. All other parking regulations remain in effect.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There's a silly cat at the Berkshire Humane Society looking for a forever family to play with him.

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

Socks is around 3 years old and is a tuxedo cat. He was found as a stray and brought to the shelter in August.

Feline/small animal adoption counselor Alyssa Petell introduced us to him.

Socks is a cat with his own boundaries and will let you know when you cross them. He has to go to a home with older children who will understand when he is done with petting and that has no other cats or dogs.

December is the Start of Bird Feeding Season

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Winter bird feeding is a great way to observe and learn about our year-round bird residents such as black capped chickadees, nuthatches and blue jays.

This winter is also predicted to be a great year for seeing birds that visit Vermont in the winter, including evening and pine grosbeaks, and red polls. 

"Currently, limited food resources north of us will pull more birds south in search of cone seeds and berries," said Jillian Kilborn, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bird project leader.

BEAT Celebrating Founding Director Jane Winn's Retirement

New Housing Units Planned for Historic North Street Site

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Allegrone Companies asking the city for a tax increment exemption for affordable housing units on North Street.   The project will consist of the building at 24 North St., the former Berkshire County Savings Bank, as well as 30-34 North St.   The City Council on Tuesday referred the request to the Community and Economic Development Committee.   Allegrone's affiliate Ace 24 North LLC purchased the historic bank building in September 2023 for $880,000.   The company is looking to develop 23 units of housing between 24 North and 30–34 North, with 19 of the units market rate, and four considered affordable. Be Aware of Runners Near BCC During Thursday Morning Fund-Raiser

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Residents are asked to be aware of traffic delays on outer West Street along the Berkshire Community College campus down to Meadow Ridge on Thanksgiving morning between 9 and 10 a.m. for the 10th annual MountainOne Thankful 5K.   The annual event is a fundraiser for the local Berkshire County food pantries.   As of Tuesday afternoon, there are close to 700 runners registered for the race. The event will have walkers and runners and more than 100 students participating for free.   Attendees are asked to remain on the left side of the road throughout the event to ensure traffic can flow through the event. Pittsfield Firefighters Gunn, Mazzeo Commended for Meritorious Conduct

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two city firefighters were among the 170 from throughout the state recognized on Tuesday for valor and meritorious conduct at the 36th annual Firefighter of the Year Awards.   Firefighters Clarence Gunn and Mathew Mazzeo received Citations for Meritorious Conduct for their swift actions in rescuing an ice fisherman who had fallen through the ice on Onota Lake last January.    Gov. Pittsfield Council to Vote on Crosby/Conte Feasibility Contract

Throughout the 2025 municipal election season and previous votes, there has been resounding support for the proposal to rebuild and consolidate John C. Crosby Elementary and Silvio O. Conte Community School on the Crosby property.

School officials in 2024 toured the 69,500-square-foot Conte that opened in 1974 and the 69,800-square-foot Crosby that opened in 1962.
