Pittsfield Americans, Great Barrington Earn District Tourney Wins

ADAMS, Mass. – The Pittsfield Little League American Division All-Stars secured a spot in the 12-year-old Don Gleason District 1 title game on Sunday afternoon.   Who they will meet in that final is anyone’s guess.   The Americans improved to 3-0 in the five-team round robin with a 13-3 win over the city rival Pittsfield Nationals at Willard “Beaver” Bard Field.   Two other teams also have a shot at three wins, but they play one another in Tuesday’s finale of the round-robin.   Great Barrington (2-1) earned its second win of the tournament on Sunday with a 15-3 victory over Dalton-Hinsdale (0-3).   Host Adams-Cheshire, which has played

Attorney General Funds Summer Jobs for Young People

BOSTON — Attorney General Maura Healey  announced that her office is awarding more than $262,000 in grant funding to 70 organizations across the state to fund summer jobs for young people that are focused on promoting health and wellness.   In Berkshire County, Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, the Berkshire South Regional Community Center and Greenagers in South Egremont will receive funding to support jobs for young people.   "For eight years, we've worked closely with inspiring organizations in every corner of the state to create safe, positive summer experiences for young people," said Healey. Reed Leads Pittsfield Americans to 11-Year-Old District Title

ADAMS, Mass. – Cooper Reed did it all for the Pittsfield Little League American Division 11-year-old All-Stars on Saturday afternoon.   On the mound, Reed struck out five and allowed just two hits.   At the plate, he doubled in the game’s tying run and scored the game-winner as the Americans defeated the Nationals, 2-1, in the Don Gleason District 1 Championship Game.   In throwing a complete game, Reed got stronger as the game went along. DALTON, Mass. – Jeremiah Bullett drove in the tying run and raced around the bases for the go-ahead score in the bottom of the bottom of the fourth Saturday as the Pittsfield Little League American Division 11-year-old All-Stars beat Dalton-Hinsdale, 9-7, in the Don Gleason District 1 Championship Game.   Bullett went 2-for-3 with a double, and Jake Knauth and Landon Marquis combined to strike out seven for the Americans, who went 4-0 over the last eight days to win the four-team tournament.   Dalton-Hinsdale earned nine hits, but Knauth and Marquis allowed just one walk. Audit Recommends MOITI Improve Administrative Practices

BOSTON — The Office of State Auditor Suzanne M. ADAMS, Mass -- The Great Barrington 12-year-old All-Stars executed a rundown to stop a runner attempting to score on a whild pitch in the sixth inning to secure a 5-4 win over the Pittsfield Little League National Division in the Don Gleason District 1 Championship on Friday night.   Finn Mason earned the win on the mound by throwing 4-two-thirds innings. Pittsfield Back in 'Yellow Zone' for COVID-19 Transmission

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Following the holiday weekend, the city has dipped into the yellow incidence rate for COVID-19 transmission.

On Tuesday, the percent positivity rate was 4.3, down from 5.3 last week. To be in the yellow zone, a community must have 10 or fewer average cases per 100,000 people or have a 5 percent or less positivity rate.

The average case rate was 29.1 on Tuesday, a metric that has stayed rather steady since mid-June.

The city is still close to the red zone, which is categorized by having equal to or more than 10 average cases per 100,000 and having a five percent or higher positivity rate in a 14-day period.
