Both Pittsfield Little League teams in action in sectional play on Saturday won to stay alive in their respective age groups.   The 11-year-old All-Stars earned a 14-0 win at Westfield behind Hector Reyes-Colon’s complete-game effort on the mound.   The Pittsfield 11s came out of the loser’s bracket to earn a date against Holden on Sunday in the finals.   A win by Holden, and it takes the Section 1 title in the double-elimination tournament. If Pittsfield wins, it will be home on Monday night in a winner-take-all finale.   It is the same scenario for the Pittsfield 10-year-old All-Stars, who won, 7-3, at Holden on Saturday to stay alive in their

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A city native is hoping to help fill a need for certified public accountants in the county.    Kevin Garcia recently started his own accounting firm and is accepting new clients.   "It's just, it's like the American dream. Ever since college, I've always had that drive to try to start my own [company]," he said. "I just had an itch to just do it. I knew one day I was going to do it. And so I think at one point I was just like, 'I'm going to do it.'"   He said Berkshire County is short on CPAs and that fewer people are going into the accounting field. Another local CPA told him that he's having to

MassWildlife: Report fish kills
11:27AM / Saturday, July 12, 2025
Seeing dead or dying fish can cause distress and prompt concerns about pollution, but the vast majority of summer fish kills are natural events. As warm weather arrives, lakes and ponds heat up, and natural fish kills may occur. To ensure there is not a pollution problem, please report all fish kills by calling the Environmental Police Radio Room at 1 (800) 632-8075.   Natural fish kills are most often caused by low oxygen levels, fish diseases, or spawning stress. Depletion of dissolved oxygen is also a common cause. Water holds less dissolved oxygen at higher temperatures, and in shallower or weedier ponds, levels can drop further as plants consume oxygen at night. Fish spawning,

Vietnam veteran Woody Vaspra speaks at Friday's opening of the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall. LENOX, Mass. — Like many of the people gathered on War Memorial Field on Friday morning, Cheshire's Lenwood "Woody" Vaspra could remember a time when remembrances of the Vietnam War were the last thing on Americans' minds.   "When Vietnam veterans returned home from Vietnam, there were no tributes, recognition, speeches, parades, even handshakes for us," Vaspra told the crowd gathered to open a weekend-long remembrance with the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall. "It was a very obscure re-entry into society. Many of the veterans came back either

@theMarket: 'Valuations Don't Matter'
By Bill Schmick,
02:49PM / Friday, July 11, 2025
Over the last few weeks, the above statement has been appearing on financial channels, in newsletters, and on many trading desks. That runs counter to everything taught in business schools and the financial world at large. Has the stock market truly become a trillion-dollar casino, or is there something else going on?   As readers are aware, the Trump administration has pushed back the implementation date of reciprocal tariffs until Aug. 1. In the meantime, the White House is sending a flurry of form letters to various countries, listing what will happen if they do not make a deal with the U.S. before that date.   A new risk on the tariff front is that Donald Trump showed his
