PITTSFIELD, Mass. Mayor Peter Marchetti announced that two Pittsfield businesses, Hot Plate Brewing Co. and Interprint, were respectively named as Silver and Bronze Awardees for the 2023 MassEcon Economic Impact Awards. According to MassEcon, the Economic Impact Awards celebrate companies throughout the Commonwealth for their contributions to the state's economy. Each awardee must meet three criteria including locating a new operation in Massachusetts or expanding operations resulting in added jobs and facility investment, social impact with community involvement/philanthropic efforts and internal/external equity, diversity and inclusion practices. Pittsfield Council OKs Arrowhead Sewer ExtensionBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — City sewer will be extended to Herman Melville's Arrowhead, benefitting more than 5,000 visitors a year.
The City Council on Tuesday approved a $650,000 borrowing under the Sewer Enterprise Fund for the Holmes Road project that will also allow a couple of residential homes to connect. It passed 8-1 with Councilor at Large Earl Persip III and Ward 6 Councilor Dina Lampiasi absent and Ward 3 Councilor Matthew Wrinn in opposition.
"Just know that the sewer extension will benefit over 5000 visitors," Berkshire County Historical Society Executive Director Lesley Herzberg said.

The ceremony has been held by the monument in Park Square for nearly a half-century. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The slushy snow left in Park Square from last week's storm did not stop Berkshire County veterans from honoring the 27 local people who were killed in action in Vietnam.
"We are gathered here today to remember the men and women from Berkshire County who gave their lives while serving in Vietnam for their country," veteran Ron Rousseau said on Saturday before reading the names of the fallen service members.
The annual ceremony recognizes National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which is on March 29. A coalition of local veterans has been holding it for

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority is now called UpSide413, a name that "symbolizes an upward journey towards improvement."
The new alias was announced on Friday after a months-long selection process and was well received by those involved with the organization. The word "authority" is seen as counter-intuitive and 100 percent of stakeholders were in favor of the change.
The new name will not change its work, as it is meant to clarify the services that are offered and the core mission.

The day was clear and warm, perfect for gathering on the lawn at the North Adams Public Library. Dozens of people watched the astronomical show from blankets and lawn chairs. The library handed out about 650 eclipse glasses leading up to the event.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The First Fridays at Five events will blend arts and entertainment, shopping, and community engagement and planners hope it expands with time.
Mayor Peter Marchetti released details on Friday of the new event that combines the beloved Third Thursdays and the First Fridays Artswalks. It is a collaboration between the city, Downtown Pittsfield, Inc., and the Downtown Pittsfield Cultural Association with the first occurring on May 3.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The executive committee of the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission on Thursday agreed to call for changes in legislation that aims to standardize a regulatory tool used by municipalities to control development. House Bill 3551 on Beacon Hill seeks to enshrine in Massachusetts General Law the practice of "site plan review," which is commonly used in towns and cities as a, "regulatory tool and a means for communities to control the aesthetics and environmental impacts of land use under their zoning by-law." PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield Community Television broadcasts 20,000 hours of city programming and its cable contract asks are seen as reasonable. The Cable Advisory Committee heard PCTV’s ascertainment report on Thursday ahead of contract negotiations with Charter Spectrum. The panel will soon review a draft request for a proposal for the cable company.

BOSTON — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder today announced that preliminary revenue collections for March totaled $4.065 billion, $182 million or 4.7 percent more than actual collections in March 2023, and $129 million or 3.3 percent above benchmark.
