Hillard, Pittsfield 13s Win, Claim Top Seed for Bracket Play

GLEN ALLEN, Va. — Cam Hillard hit a two-run, go-ahead single in the top of the fourth and split time with Connor Paronto in a 7-4 win for the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars on Tuesday afternoon.   With the win over the Pacific Northwest Champions from Wilamette Valley, Ore., Pittsfield finished pool play with a record of 3-1 and grabbed the top seed out of the tournament's five-team National Division.   That means a day off when bracket play begins on Wednesday and a bye into Thursday's championship semi-final.   One day after being no-hit in its only loss of the all-star season, Pittfsfield responded with nine hits on Tuesday, including a double by

GLEN ALLEN, Va. — Christian Barry hit an RBI triple in a three-run second inning Sunday, and the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars defeated the Virginia State Champions, 4-1, at the World Series.   Pittsfield improved to 2-0 with two games remaining in round-robin pool play at the event. MVP Grant Funds Flood Resiliency in Berkshire County

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community partners gathered at the Churchill Brook culvert on Hancock Road on Thursday to highlight flood mitigation efforts assisted by the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program grant.

To date, the state program has awarded more than $5 million to the region and the work has been done over two years.

"The MVP program has awarded $5.7 million to date to our region and we've done that through planning and action grants," Berkshires and Hilltowns coordinator Carrieanne Petrik explained.

Return to Normalcy Makes Pittsfield COVID Rates Rise

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A return to normalcy has caused COVID-19 cases to rise in the city but health officials are not alarmed.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, Director of Public Health Andy Cambi compared metrics from this summer and last summer.  

On Monday the percent positivity rate was 12.5 and the average case rate was 36.1 cases per 100,000. On the same day last year, the percent positivity rate was 2.4 and the average case rate was 11.1 cases per 100,000.

"What we're seeing this summer around is that we did see a slight increase in the daily cases in the couple of months that you had, June and July," he said.

West Side Mural Wishes for Greener Future

Lenox Hotels Sold for $38M

LENOX, Mass. — Two Lenox hotels on the Pittsfield Lenox Road have been acquired by a Denver hospitality company in a deal for $38 million.    Mission Hill Hospitality, a KSL Capital Partners portfolio company, closed the sales on Aug. 11 for the Courtyard by Marriot Lenox and Hampton Inn & Suites Berkshires-Lenox from Toole Lodging Group.   "The Berkshires are a top drive-to-leisure destination in New England, filled with a rich history and an abundance of attractions bringing in tourists to Lenox year-round," said Mike Wilbert, managing director of Mission Hill Hospitality, in a statement announcing the purchases. Wahconah Park Restoration Committee Inspects Grandstand

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The members of the Wahconah Park Restoration Committee had their meeting on site to see the extent of the work ahead of them.

"The purpose of tonight's meeting is simply to orient the committee to Wahconah Park," Parks, Open Space, and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath said on Thursday.
