Examples of Lefty Lanphear's work at left and his daughter Viviana's 'twig' work at right. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There is a piece of tattooing history right here in Pittsfield. The body art practice was made legal in 2000 after Stephan "Lefty" Lanphear won a lawsuit against the state that found its 40-plus year ban on tattooing unconstitutional. "I got into tattooing and I wanted to have a shop on [Martha's Vineyard] and so I didn't know that tattooing was illegal in Massachusetts until somebody told me, and at the time the general law only let physicians tattoo, so only doctors could tattoo. They did medical marking, like

But it will be a long time before anyone forgets what this team accomplished. "It's been big," Morris Fried said after being named Pittsfield's MVP in the title game. "We've been working hard all summer, and to get this far — I'm really proud of these guys. We worked as a team. It's not just one person who got us here. "It's 0 Comments Read More >> |

Pittsfield Personnel Review Board Approves New PositionsBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff 05:12AM / Friday, August 19, 2022 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Personnel Review Board on Wednesday voted to create emergency co-responders in the Police Department and two social worker positions: one in the police department and one in the Health Department. This comes in the wake of increased homelessness and mental health distress and the police killing of Miguel Estrella in March. There has been a call for greater mental health services since Estrella's death, with some community members arguing that alternatives to policing are needed and the co-responder should be separate from the PPD. The fiscal 2023 budget included a $75,000 allocation for a social worker in the Health Department and a recommendation that

On Wednesday afternoon, the mood was light as the squad held what is sure to be its last full practice of the season. They kidded one another about their shoes, they reminisced about past games and past tournaments, someone came up with the notion of reviving old Little League dugout chants for Thursday's World Series semi-final, but that idea did not get much traction.
