The Classical Beat: Tanglewood & Sevenars: Classical Music Heaven

Tanglewood enters its third week, and the highlights are many; indeed, every concert will be memorable.

On July 16, in a celebration of the 150th birthday of the great post-Impressionist French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937), the phenomenal young pianist Seong-Jin Cho performs the master's complete solo piano works in Ozawa Hall. Two days later, Rachmaninoff's magisterial "All-Night Vigil" — among the masterpieces of Russian choral works — will be performed by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

Another great Russian work — the exuberantly joyful "Souvenir de Florence," for chamber strings by Tchaikovsky will be performed by TCM string Fellows

CATA Exhibits More Accessible than Ever

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community Access to the Arts kicked off its annual art show last week, and this year it is more accessible than ever before.    For more than three decades, CATA has been providing artistic opportunities for people with disabilities to tell their stories and perspectives through a wide range of media and performance.     This year's art show, themed "I Am a Part of Art," features 150 works created by CATA artists at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts and 50 more in the Clark Art Institute's Lunder Center at Stone Hill in Williamstown.    The works will be on display in the Lichtenstein Center until Aug.

Playwriting Reception and Reading at Arrowhead

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire County Historical Society invites visitors to hear selected works by playwrights who attended the July 13-18 playwriting intensive held at Arrowhead and lead by Elizabeth Doss.     The free event is being held at Arrowhead July 18 at 7 pm.   In addition, on July 19 Ms. Doss will "talk back" to "The Confidence Man", the last published and completed novel by Melville in his lifetime.    The event begins at 7 pm in the barn at Arrowhead. Sing Along Sea Shanties At Arrowhead

Screening of 'Glory' at the Colonial Theater

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Westside Legends, along with The Berkshire Theater Group, NAACP, R.O.P.E., and the Samuel Harrison Society, are organizing a screening of the movie "Glory" on Sunday, July 6 at 3 p.m.    The event will be held at the Colonial Theater, located at 111 South St. This event is free and open to the public.   The movie is being shown to celebrate two new murals. "Glory of the Berkshires" is on College Way, and "Pride of the Westside" will be at Durant Park. Berkshire Music School Announces Talent and Merit Scholarship Auditions

These auditions are scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the Berkshire Music School, located at 30 Wendell Ave, Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Music Bingo Event to Benefit Berkshire Humane Society

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Bishop West Real Estate is organizing a "Music Bingo" event on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Proprietor's Lodge in Pittsfield to benefit the Berkshire Humane Society.    Doors for the event open at 5:00 PM.   The event aims to raise funds for the Berkshire Humane Society.
