LECTURE ON JAPANESE PRINTS

Professor of History of Art Julie Nelson Davis, University of Pennsylvania, presents a free lecture on ukiyo-e (“images of the floating world”) prints at the Clark Art Institute in the Michael Conforti Pavilion. The lecture coincides with the Clark’s special exhibit "Japanese Impressions: Color Woodblock Prints from the Rodbell Family Collection," on view through April 2 in the Clark Center.

HOT VAN GOGH WORKSHOP

Berkshire Community College's (BCC) South County Center is offering The Hot Van Gogh workshop, an art class during which participants will create still life in primary colors. Students will use a wall of hot colors, complemented by an intense Van Gogh print, using paint, collage or mixed media. Workshop (WKS 033-C1), to be led by artist Arthur Yanoff, will be held on Tuesdays through May 16. The cost is $240; register here.

CATA ARTISTS EXHIBIT

Community Access to the Arts will exhibit a collection of paintings by people with disabilities at The Good Purpose Gallery in Lee through May 15, opening with an artist reception. The exhibit will feature work created by CATA Artists from Berkshire County Arc and Berkshire Family and Individual Resources in A.R.T. painting workshops. A.R.T. (Artistic Realization Technologies) is an adaptive painting technique developed by artist Tim Lefens. This innovative process allows individuals with significant physical disabilities to precisely execute their creative vision with the assistance of a tracker acting as the hands of the artist.

FREE DAY AT THE CLARK

Explore the Clark Art Institute’s sculpture and decorative arts collections with “Any Way, Shape, or Form,” part of the Clark’s First Sundays Free program. Admission to the galleries is free all day; free family activities take place from 1–4 pm in the open studio space located in the Michael Conforti Pavilion. Art-making activities include making armature (sculptural framework) and a piece of sculpture. Gallery talks will be held at at 1:30 and 3 p.m.
