BIRDING AT CANOE MEADOWS
Pittsfield, 8-10 a.m.
Canoe Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary will host a free birding walk. Spring is the best season to look for migrants of all kinds, especially the beautiful wood-warblers, orioles, thrushes, and more. Walk past wetlands and through meadows and woodlands observing changes in bird species each week. Preregistration is not required and the walk is free.

SPRING SALAMANDER & FROG SEARCH
Lenox, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Lenox will host a Spring Salamander & Frog Search for adults and children 5 and up. Visitors will search the woods and wetlands of Pleasant Valley for these fascinating animals and learn about their interesting lives. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Register at 413-637-0320; adults are $8 and children are $4.

16TH ANNUAL HUMANE RACE
North Adams, 10 a.m.
Berkshire Humane Society's 2018 Humane Race, a timed 5K and 1-Mile Fun Walk, will be hosted by North Adams on Saturday, April 28. We're super excited about this new partnership. Not only will it be a change of scenery for our runners and walkers, it's an opportunity for our shelter to collaborate with another vibrant North County community! Registration is now open. SPRING HAPPENINGS WALK AT STEEPLETOP, NEW MARLBOROUGH
New Marlborough, 9:30 a.m. - Noon
Search for spring happenings throughout the extensive wetlands of this beautiful Reserve. STEEPLETOP Saturday, April 28, 9:30am-12:00pm Difficulty: Easy (easy pace, little elevation changes) Description: Join us for a stroll around the wetlands of the Steepletop Reserve and search for spring happenings like buds breaking open with new leaves emerging, spring ephemerals popping up, and birds arriving. Please bring a snack, water, and wear appropriate footwear. Directions: From Great Barrington, take Route 23 east to Monterey. Just after the Monterey line, bear right onto Route 57/183 into New Marlborough. Just before the Old Inn on the Green in New Marlborough, turn left onto New Marlborough-Monterey Road; follow for 1.6 miles. Turn right at the steep, inclining driveway with the Steepletop sign. Bear right into our gravel parking lot at the top of the little hill. The trails begin right at the trailhead parking; there is a kiosk just beyond the gate. CANOE MEADOWS VOLUNTEER DAY
Pittsfield, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Canoe Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary invited volunteers to help care for their community gardens and wildlife sanctuary. Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of projects, including meadow restoration and fall garden clean up. Tools, gloves, and refreshments will be provided. Register at 413-637-0320.

HUMANE RACE
North Adams, 9 a.m.
Berkshire Humane Society’s 16th annual Humane Race – a timed 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk benefitting homeless animals – will be hosted by the city of North Adams. Participants are invited to run and walk with or without a leashed canine companion. Proceeds benefit Berkshire Humane Society and the homeless animals of the Berkshires. Check-in and day-of registration begin at 9 a.m. at Colegrove Park, located at 24 Church St. The race, which will be timed by Berkshire Running Center, will begin at 10 a.m. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to register in advance online.
