Carmela Devino, 78

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Carmela "Carmie" Christine Devino, resident of Berkshiretown Apartments in Pittsfield, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center at the age of 78. 



Carmela was the youngest child of Antoinette Ronco and Joseph Masdea, formerly of Division Street in Pittsfield. She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph Masdea, Frank Masdea, and Umberto "Al" Masdea; and by her sister Elizabeth "Libby" Masdea. She is survived by her sister Jenny Masdea, also a resident of Berkshiretown Apartments. 



She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School in the class of 1955. After graduation she worked as a secretary at Electric Supply and Repair Company. She was married in 1960 and is survived by her three children: Kim Lagrotteria of Pittsfield, Michelle Withers of Lee, and Mark D'Avignon of San Francisco. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Marissa Guzzo, Dominic Lagrotteria, Lucas Withers, Kayla Withers, and Marcus D'Avignon. 



She was also an employee of Greylock Plastics for a number of years, and retired from Berkshire Medical Center where she worked for many years. 



Carmela was a dedicated sister, mother, aunt and grandmother. She loved being with her family and many close friends and was especially proud of her Italian-American heritage. She loved her classic movies and live performances, especially local high school musical performances. She loved to travel, taking part in numerous bus tours to destinations around New England, and visited her beloved Italy twice. She also traveled to Los Angeles and San Francisco on numerous occasions to visit family. She was especially fond of San Francisco, its Italian-American culture and cuisine, and the wine country of Napa and Sonoma. Throughout her life, Carmela took part in many activities at the Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge in Pittsfield. 



Carmela lived her entire life in Pittsfield had many close relatives and friends who provided her with love and companionship. She and her family are grateful to all the friends and family who helped her throughout her life and especially in her final days. A special thanks goes out to all the great people at Berkshiretown Apartments in Pittsfield for all their kind support and loving friendship.



Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Carmela "Carmie" Devino, who passed away February 3, 2017, will be held Friday, February 17, 2017, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Pittsfield celebrated by the Rev. Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. 



Carmela was a longtime contributor to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201 which is handling the arrangements.
