John W. Godfrey, 68

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — John W. Godfrey, 68, a longtime resident of Pittsfield and resident of Hillcrest Commons for the past 15 months, died Monday, February 13, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center.



Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on October 18, 1948, son of the late John D. and Lillian Beach Godfrey, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1966 graduate of Pittsfield High School.



A Viet Nam War veteran, Mr. Godfrey enlisted with the United States Army on December 4, 1968 and was honorably discharged on November 26, 1971.



Mr. Godfrey was employed as a move man for the former Eaton Paper Company and for 14 years following was employed by Crane & Company in its Stationery Mill. He retired in 2001 due to Parkinson's Disease.



He was a member of the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center, and a member of a pitch league and bowling league. He enjoyed following the Red Sox and the Patriots, and playing cards. He also enjoyed visiting the ocean in Maine and spending time with his grandsons.



Mr. Godfrey leaves his wife, the former Pamela R. Gaudette, whom he married May 18, 1974, in Notre Dame Church. He is also survived by a son, Jason J. Godfrey and his wife, Cathy, of Holliston, Mass.; a brother, Paul J. Godfrey and his significant other, Debra Morawski of Pittsfield; and two grandchildren, Zachary J. Godfrey and Griffin W. Godfrey.



Funeral notice: Calling hours for John W. Godfrey will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Prayers will follow at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert Rennie, chaplain at Hospice Care in the Berkshires.



Burial will take place in July at a date to be announced in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Dis ease in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
