PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mary H. Bardwell, 91, of Berkshire Place, formerly of Salisbury Court, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Berkshire Place.



Born in San Francisco, California, on April 3, 1925, the daughter of Dr. Carl L. and Josephine Hoag, she graduated from Burke's School and Mills College, both in San Francisco.



Mary was a Red Cross member during World War II, where she met her husband, whose ship, The Destroyer, USS Starlite, took port in San Diego, California.



Mary was a Past President of the Berkshire Bontanial Gardens in Stockbridge and a dedicated volunteer caring for the gardens at Arrowhead. She enjoyed tennis, swimming, and gardening. Mary also traveled widely and enjoyed summering on Cape Cod.



She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lenox.



Her husband, Robert D. Bardwell Jr., died June 27, 1989.



Mary is survived by her son, Robert D. Bardwell III., and his wife, Robin, of East Orleans, Mass.; her daughter, Sandra B. Bernard, and her husband, Raymond, of Marine on St. Croix, Minn.; her grandchildren, Robert D. Bardwell IV. of Quincy, Dr. Benjamin C. Ryan and his wife, Dr. Sarah A. McSweeney-Ryan, of Scituate, Rebecca B. Meiners and her husband, Dr. James Meiners, of Lino Lake, Minn.; and great-grandchildren Molly, Jane and Bridget Ryan of Scituate.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Mary H. Bardwell will be private with burial to be in Pittsfield Cemetery. The Dery Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
