Geaneve Herzog, 91

August 25, 2017


PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Geaneve Mary Herzog, 91, of Pittsfield passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, at home after a long illness. 



Born on October 30, 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Marcadante) Gabriel. She was educated in Jefferson, N.J., schools. 



Jean worked as 2nd Cook in the Pittsfield School System for twenty years prior to retirement. She spent 10 years at Taconic High School and another 10 years at Conte. 



She was a communicant of St. Mark Church, where she attended daily Mass. 



She enjoyed many things in her life, such as traveling, gardening, cooking and baking. Everyone loved her food, especially her homemade bread, ravioli, and polenta. Jean loved sharing her Italian heritage with her family and friends. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.



She is survived by a son, James E. Herzog Jr. of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Anna Chapman of Chicopee and James Chapman of Pittsfield, Mass., Gennevieve “Genne” LeVasseur and her husband Richard of Hinsdale, Mass., and Josephine “Josie” Herzog of Pittsfield; a brother, Frank Gabriel of Garwood, N.J.; a sister, Antoinette Woodworth of Ft. Myers, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Cathy Herzog Turner of Hinsdale; her seven adoring grandchildren, Rebecca Messer, Scot LeVasseur, Jeremy Kimber, Marc LeVasseur, Nicole Wallace, Tiffany Bassi and Brittany Herzog; her eight great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Nicholas, Mia, Noah, Carter, Luc and Luca Adalee; her step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. 



She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Herzog Sr., who died December 24, 2008; a son, Franz “Frank” Herzog, who died July 30, 2008; a brother, Joseph Gabriel; and two sisters, Angie Hoag and Josephine Silvernail. 



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Geaneve Mary Herzog, 91, of Pittsfield will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Mark Church celebrated by Rev. David E. Aufiero, Administrator. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. 



Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. Memorial donations in memory of Geaneve may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
