Cesare Polce, 82

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Cesare Polce, 82, of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 6, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center. 



Cesare was born in San Valentino, Italy, on October 26, 1935. Cesare and his family survived hardships brought on by WWII. After the war, Cesare went on to serve in the Italian Military as part of the elite Alpini 8th Regiment. After working many years at a cement factory in Scafa, Italy, Cesare with his wife and two daughters immigrated by ship to America in 1968. 



During their brief stay in Derby, Conn,, Cesare worked for Charlton Press before settling with his family in Pittsfield, Mass. Cesare made lifelong friendships while working at David Tierney Construction for 30 years before retiring in 1998. 



Cesare is survived by his loving wife, Giuseppina DiTomasso, whom he married on May 15, 1958. He also leaves three daughters, Germana Sachs and her husband Paul Sachs, Marina Finamore and her husband Timothy Finamore, and Tina Alibozek and her husband Michael Alibozek. Cesare’s joy were his seven grandchildren: Jason McCarthy, Juliana Finamore, Patrick Finamore, Lucas Finamore, Dylan Finamore, Victoria Alibozek and Nicholas Alibozek.. He also leaves behind his brother, Rocco Polce; four sisters, Delfina DiTomasso, Gina Frittella, Maria Maiolo, and Pia Battaglino; as well as his many nieces and nephews. 



He was predeceased by his parents Camillo Polce and Giovina DiTomasso; his brother Valentino Polce; and his sister Bambina DiBattista.



In addition to family, Cesare enjoyed many years of participating in a bowling league, playing bocce, gardening and making wine with family and friends. Cesare was also an avid sports fan, enjoying his annual visit to his beloved Yankee Stadium and watching the New York Jets on TV. Cesare loved most to be present at all of his grandchildren’s events.  



Funeral notice: Services will take place Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 8 a.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 414 North St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Monsignor Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor officiating. 



Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, November 10, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or St. Joseph's Church in care of the funeral home.
