Viola M. Hover, 93

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Viola M. Hover, 93, of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away January 16, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family.



Born in Wild Rose North Dakota on June 22, 1924, to the late Gustav and Mary Pedersen Hansen. She was a graduate of Wild Rose High School and then went on to graduate from business school in Minnesota.



She married the late Raymond Hover in December 1943 in Spokane, Washington, who she was predeceased by on November 26, 1994. Viola worked at the Division of Employment Security as a Senior Interviewer for 25 years.



She was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Women's Circle groups at the church for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Club of Pittsfield. Viola enjoyed spending holidays and Sunday dinners with her family. She also enjoyed gardening. Back In high school and in her younger years, she was called "Sure Shot Viola," due to her skills in playing basketball.



Mrs. Hover is survived by her daughter, Betty Salvatore and her significant other Mark McNeice of Pittsfield; her three sons, Keith Hover of San Pedro, Calif., Donald Hover and wife Marge of Virginia Beach, Va., and Raymond Hover and wife Cece of Virginia Beach, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.



She was predeceased by her son Kenny on February 12, 1999. Viola was also predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Viola M. Hover will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018, at noon at Zion Lutheran Church following a private burial by the family at Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
