PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Miss Nettie A. Sarro, 93, of 198 Blythewood Drive and most recently residing at Wingate Assisted Living, 140 Melbourne Road, both of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at the Berkshire Medical Center.
She was born in Pittsfield on May 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Charles M. and Concetta (Vaccaro) Sarro. Nettie attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1945. She was employed at O’Connell Oil Co. for many years and then by the Knapp Oil Company until her retirement in 1985.
Nettie was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and St. Joseph’s Church. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, mushrooming, building puzzles and bingo.
Survivors include her niece, Linda A. Adriance and her husband, John, of Hancock, Mass.; her nephew, James E. Burnick and his wife, Michelle of Matthews, N.C.,; three great-nephews, Matthew and Michael Adriance and Andrew Burnick; her great-niece, Sarah Burnick.
She was predeceased by her brother, Eugene C. Sarro; and her sister, Margaret S. Burnick.
Funeral notice: Services will take place Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 8 a.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 414 North St., Pittsfield with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker C.S.S. officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, July 13, 2018, from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
