Marjorie R. Whalen, 83

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Marjorie Rita Whalen, 83, of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away December 30, 2018, at the home of her daughter Linda.



Born in Pittsfield on October 11, 1935, daughter of the late Joseph and Isabelle Mongeon Plankey, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was married to William L. Whalen, who predeceased her on August 15, 1978.



Mrs. Whalen was primarily a homemaker and previously had worked at Jack Slatery, Berkshire Bank and Eaton Paper Company.



A communicant of St. Charles Church, she was a crafter and enjoyed making furniture. She also enjoyed puzzle books, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



She leaves behind her daughters, Patricia Volpi and husband Aldo of Adams, Mass., Linda Polidoro and husband Dale Clark of Adams, Mass., and Diane Colbert and husband Scott of Pittsfield; her son, Michael Whalen of Lanesborough, Mass.; her sister, Irene White of Lanesborough, Mass.; five grandchildren, Leanna, Megan, Christopher, Brennan, Krista and Alanna; as well as three great-grandchildren.



She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Plankey.



Funeral notice: Funeral service for Mrs. Whalen will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor Emeritus. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.



Calling hours will be held Friday, January 4, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
