PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.

Merry Christmas to all. My son James Mc Grath, Lover of Parks, trees, recreation, Toys and games for kids, and all good things such as ice skating skiing,walking in the woods, playing with pets, swimming in the summer ....you name it. James loved play as a child and he has devoted his life to the wonder of it all. I think you are a lucky community to have him working for you.... I wish he was working for South Kingstown, R.I. where I live. He's the best!

Down on Union Street, Barrington Stage Company was hosting a holiday open house, an opportunity to look around the theatre, enjoy refreshments, and most importantly, speak to the clear headlining star of the weekend, Santa Claus. 




In a quiet moment with the Man in Red, he said he was thrilled to be here, and was looking forward to hearing from many more children.  Always gracious, Mr. Claus thanked iBerkshires for stopping by.  Always pressed for appearances this time of year, Claus was slated to appear later that evening at the Colonial Theatre.

Festivities for all ages this weekend as part of Pittsfield's pro-local holiday season push.
 
After Friday's tree-lighting, many families spilled out into other activities downtown.  Some went to take advantage of the half-priced admission at the Berkshire Museum, with it's circus of decorated trees, others headed to Bisque, Beads & Beyond, where they the opportunity to hand paint their own holiday ornament.




This is the second year BB&B has hosted the ornament decorating party, with proceeds going to benefit local food pantries.
