Pittsfield, Mass - Hundreds of children and adults packed into Park Square again this year to watch the lighting of the city's tree, followed by caroling and a visit from Mr. Claus.

Pittsfield's Recreation Activities Coordinator Rebecca Tefft welcomed residents to this annual tradition, which this year serves as the kickoff for a weekend long series of events, "Holiday Pittsfield: A Downtown Celebration.

Director of Cultural Development Megan Whilden spoke in lieu of Mayor James Ruberto, who she said could not be there, having needed to attend to important business with the Elves' union.

Pittsfield, Massachusetts - Show Up Show Off, a monthly meeting of photographers from Berkshire County, will meet at 6:30 PM Tuesday November 22 at the Ferrin Gallery located on 437 North Street Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Both professional and amateur photographers are invited to attend. Pittsfield, Mass- The City of Pittsfield's Finance Committee voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a communication from Mayor James Ruberto submitting an Order authorizing the city to accept a grant of $45,108 from the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Policing Services

Police Chief Michael Wynn told the Committee that the Justice Department's grant program is specifically aimed at school security.  In order to accept the Federal funding, the city must commit to matching the $45,108 from its own funds.  The money will go to help accelerate what has been and ongoing process of upgrading locks and mechanisms which will allow

Beacon Cinema screening of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" to kick off 3rd annual LGBT celebration November 10-13
THURSDAY, November 10, 2011
  Pittsfield, Mass -Out in the Berkshires kicks off a weekend of LGBT celebration tonight  with "a night full of Drag and Drinks" at Pittsfield's Beacon Cinema with a screening of "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.  This 1994 classic tells the hilarious and touching tale of 3 drag queens travelling across the Australian outback. 
The screening begins at 8:00pm but event organizers say to get there a bit early and meet their own "Priscilla", Taffy Darling from Rumpy's Tavern in Lenox.  After the show there will be a social hour at Brulees, next door to the Beacon, where there will be cocktail

The Pittsfield Westside Neighborhood Initiative's new Energy and Resources committee will be hosting "Solar 101," a presentation on the benefits of installing solar panels, on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. at Conte Community School.
