Force 12U Finishes Pool Play at National Tournament

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Montgomery Devils' 12-and-under team Monday handed the Berkshire Force a 12-2 loss in the Force's pool play finale at the Youth Softball Nationals.   The Devils, of Pine Bush, N.Y., scored five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back.   Layla Soules and Daisy Charon each had a hit for the Force. Josie Schilling drove in a run.   Charon and Olivia Archambault split time in the circle for the Force.   Berkshire finishes pool play with a record of 1-4; bracket play is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Daisy Caron struck out six in a complete-game, four-inning effort Sunday as the Berkshire Force 12-and-under travel softball team beat Philadelphia’s EOM Angels, 7-2, in the Youth Softball Nationals.   Victoria Blanchard went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead a nine-hit attack for the Force, which picked up its first win at the tournament.   The Berkshire 12Us jumped on top right away with a four-run first inning.   Stella Matthews hit a line drive single to center field in the rally.   The Force went up 7-1 with a pair of runs in the third, when Josie Schilling hit an RBI single.   The Force started its Sunday with a 10-1 loss to the

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Gavin Maffuccio went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs Sunday to lead the Pittsfield Post 68-2 American Legion Baseball team to an 8-3 win over Greenfield Post 81.   Aidan Underdown and Derek Roy each doubled in an eight-hit attack for Post 68-2, which also worked eight walks.   Cam Hillard earned the win on the mound, striking out five and allowing one earned run in 5 and two-thirds innings of work.   Jason Field and Dylan Turner combined on 1 and 1 and a third innings of scoreless relief.   Post 68-2 (2-5) is at Longmeadow on Wednesday.

Post 68-1 Senior Legion Team Walks Off Win Against Sheffield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Dominic Marcella drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh Sunday to give the Pittsfield Post 68-1 American Legion Baseball team a 7-6 win over Sheffield Post 340.   Ben Jacob started the winning rally with a single to right, and Gavin O’Donnell singled to left to put runners at the corners.   Sheffield opted to intentionally walk Jack Abel (1-for-3, triple, three RBIs), bringing Marcella to the plate with a chance to end it.   Post 68 rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 5-0 deficit and take a one-run lead.   Sheffield tied it in the top of the sixth when Christian Blanchard singled to drive in Parker

Burega Pitches Legion Team to Win over City Rival

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Matthew Burega struck out nine and scattered three hits Saturday in leading the Post 68-1 squad to a 3-0 win over Post 68-2 in American Legion Baseball action on Buddy Pellerin Field.   This is the first year the successful youth program has fielded two teams in the American Legion Senior Division, and Saturday was the only regular season meeting on the schedule between the two city rivals.   Burega was in control throughout, sitting down the first 10 hitters he faced.   He kept the Post 68-2 lineup off balance all afternoon by mixing up his pitches.   “When you can spin [curve balls] for strikes, it opens up so many things,” Burega

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Berkshire Force 12-and-under travel softball team Saturday opened play at the Youth Softball Nationals with a pair of losses.   The Sandy Springs Storm of Georgia beat the Force, 9-1, in their opener.   In the Berkshire squad’s second game in pool play, it fell to the Monroeville Gators of Pennsylvania, 9-0.   Layla Soules doubled to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning and scored on a Victoria Blanchard triple against Sandy Springs.   The Force (0-2) is scheduled to play twice on Sunday, starting with a game against the Pittsburgh Spirit at 2 p.m.

BHS July 4th 5K Road Race Still Going After 40 Years

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — It has been forty years since the first running of the Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) July 4th 5K kicked off in front of the parade spectators on Wahconah Street in Pittsfield.    The upcoming event sponsored by BHS and under the direction of Berkshire Running Foundation's Shiobbean Lemme for the third year.   In 1985 just under 200 runners took part in the race which last year registered just over 1100, bringing the attendance back to more than pre pandemic numbers.      Changes have been made to the event, including the support of BHS to register all students' grades K-12 for free, which Berkshire Running Foundation offers

Post 68-1 Comes Back to Beat Northampton

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Roshan Warriar gave up one run in five innings of work on the mound Wednesday as the Pittsfield Post 68 American Legion Seniors-1 team came from behind to beat Northampton Post 28, 11-7.   Northampton jumped out to a 6-1 lead midway through the second inning, but Post 68 rallied for six in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.   Warriar struck out three and walked two while allowing two hits after taking the mound.   Ben Jacob led Pittsfield’s offense, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.   Cam Zerbato, Jason Codey and Simon Mele each had two hits, including a double apiece.
