WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Say this for the Pittsfield Babe Ruth Baseball 13-year-old All-Stars: They gave fans their money’s worth at this week’s World Series.   While the other nine teams at the championship had at least one game that was a little bit lopsided in the end, here are the margins of victory in the New England champs’ five games: two runs, one run, two runs, one run, one run.   That last one-run margin of victory? It belonged to the Ohio Valley champs from Janesville, Wis., who Tuesday rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to hand Pittsfield a 4-3 loss that ended its tournament run in the first round of bracket play.   It was a heart-stopping

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars have played four games -- 28 innings -- at the World Series, and they are all square.   Starting Tuesday, that won’t be enough to stay alive.   Spokane, Wash., Monday edged Pittsfield, 4-3, in the final game of pool play for the New England Regional Champions.   Pittsfield ended the round robin in the tournament’s National Division with a record of 2-2, having scored eight runs and allowed eight runs through the first four games of the national championship.   That record was good enough to make Pittsfield one of six teams who survive to bracket play -- three from each of two divisions.

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Three games into the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-year-old World Series, this much is certain: The Pittsfield pitching staff is nearly flawless.   A little bit of good fortune on offense Sunday, and Pittsfield would have a record to match.   Greenville, N.C., scored a run in the first and an insurance run in the seventh to hand Pittsfield a 2-0 loss, its first in pool play at the national championship.   Cam Sime struck out five and stranded 10 runners on base in five innings of work on the mound, but Pittsfield managed just three hits and got just one runner past second base as it slipped to 2-1 in the tournament’s five-team National Division.   On

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars may have been a little tight at the start of Thursday’s opener at the World Series.   By the end, they showed just how well equipped this team is to play in tight games.   Owen Salvatore doubled home the winning run in the top of the sixth, and Evan Blake and Brayden Gutzmer combined to strike out 10 in a 2-0 win over the Mid-Atlantic champions from Centre County, Pa., at Bullens Field.   “Of course, we all have nerves, but not as much as there used to be,” Blake said after going 5-⅔ innings on the mound to earn the win.   Pittsfield manager Paul Brindle said the experience like
