WESTFIELD, Mass. – Cam Hillard and Noah Arnold combined on a three-hitter Wednesday to lead the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars to a 13-2 win over Westfield in the opener of the Western Massachusetts State Tournament.   Hillard struck out six and allowed a pair of hits and a pair of runs in three innings of work.   Arnold picked up a strikeout in two innings on the mound in a game that was ended early due to the mercy rule.   Eddie Ferris went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three times to lead Pittsfield’s offense.   Connor Paronto went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBIs, and Even Roccabruna doubled in a run in a 15-hit Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pitching depth was key for the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars in Wednesday’s Western Massachusetts tournament opener.   Four different hurlers combined to hold Westfield to four hits in a 5-3 win at Deming Park.   Jason Fields earned the win after allowing one run in 2 and a third innings of work on the hill.   Pittsfield skipper Bryan Maloy said he had to change gears when it became clear his starting pitcher was not going to be able to go deep into the game.   “I was going to go with [Sebastian Herrera] for the full 95 [pitches],” Maloy said. “He got a little arm soreness. Dalton-Hinsdale Opens 12-Year-Old Tourney with Win

DALTON, Mass. – Sully Duquette and Beau Sanders each had a hit and drove in a pair of runs Wednesday to lead the Dalton-Hinsdale 12-year-old Little League All-Stars to an 8-5 win over Great Barrington in the Don Gleason District 1 Tournament at Chamberlain Park.   Cam Sievers earned the win on the mound for Dalton-Hinsdale in its opening game of the Williamsport tournament.   Jacob Blackwell and Johnny Gappa each drove in a run for Great Barrington.   Great Barrington (0-2) continues pool play in the five-team tournament on Saturday when it plays Pittsfield Little League American Division.   Dalton (1-0) hosts the Pittsfield Nationals on Friday.   The

Pittsfield Summer Playground Program

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Department of Community Development has announced the return of the Parks Playground Program at three city parks this summer.    The Summer Playground Program offers a variety of recreation activities to Pittsfield children ages 6 to 13 at no cost. Playground Leaders create safe, supervised and fun-filled environments with activities including sports, games, arts and crafts, and nature activities.   The program begins Monday, July 10 and runs through Friday, August 18.
