BOSTON — Leatrice S. Finck of West Stockbridge finished 41st in her division at Monday's Boston Marathon.

Finck, 60, ran a time of 4 hours, 1 minute, 44 seconds over the 26.2-mile course at the world's oldest marathon. There were 358 women aged 60 to 64 competing in the race.

The top time among Berkshire County finishers at the event was 2:59:01, turned in by Lanesborough's Logan Wilson, 21, who finished 1,312th overall and 961st in his age group.

Lemi Berhanu Hayle and Atsede Baysa of Ethiopia won the individual titles, finishing in 2:12:45 and 2:29:19, respectively.

The Boston Athletic Association reports that 27,487 runners started the race. Nearly 97 percent of that

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — For an activity that seems so solitary, long-distance running is all about community.

On Monday, the running community converges on Boston for the 120th edition of the Boston Marathon. As usual, there is a healthy contingent of Berkshire County residents making the trip east to tackle the world's best known 26.2-miler.

For the Wilson family, the Patriots Day event is a family tradition that goes back to 2003, the first of 14 straight Bostons for David Wilson, 54.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The opening weekend of the spring season saw all Soccer Domain Academy travel teams on the road and looking forward to start the season.

Both the U13 girls and U14 boys opened with victories. The U15 girls and U12 boys both lost.

It was a great day for the opening Sunday of the season the sun was shining and everyone was keen for their matches to get under way, SDA teams travelled towards Boston for their fixtures all looking to achieve the best possible start of the season.

LEE, Mass. -- The Lee Tennis Community Association and eduKaytion Golf will combine to offer a Spring Break Tennis & Golf Academy from April 18 to 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for boys and girls 10 -14 years.

Each day’s session will take place at Greenock County Club and Cranwell Golf Resort & Spa and will include tennis instruction from 9 a.m. to noon, lunch at Fiddleheads Grills and golf instruction from 1 to 3 p.m.  Wilson Tan, PTR tennis professional, provides the tennis instruction and Kay McMahon, LPGA Teaching Hall of Famer, provides the golf instruction.

The cost for the week camp is $250 per junior.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Family YMCA’s Pittsfield Branch will offer free adult swim lessons, ssponsored by the Sponsored by the Swimming Saves Lives Foundation/U.S. Masters Swimming.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 37 percent of American adults cannot swim the length of a pool. If you never learned how to swim or are afraid of the water or want to improve your strokes or breathing technique, this session is for you. Instruction will be provided by the Y’s Polar Bears Masters Swim Club participants.

Free lessons will be offered on Thursdays from April 7-28, with one session from 5:30-6:15 p.m. and a second session from 6:15-7 p.m. There is no cost

PITTSFIELD – Pittsfield Girls Softball has some important dates coming up.

Thursday, March 17 – Online registration will end for the Rookie (10U, DOB 2005-2007) and Minor (12U, DOB 2003-2004) divisions.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Long-distance cyclists may soon be directed to bike through the Berkshires.

The American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials are developing a massive highway system designation throughout the country for long-distance bicyclists to map out routes. What is eyed as US Bicycle Route 7 would connect Connecticut with Vermont through the Berkshires.

"It's connecting regions and states much like the highway system," said Berkshire Regional Planning Commission Senior Planner Emily Lindsey.

BRPC is supportive of the agreement but the effort to get the designation will need the backing of the eight Berkshire communities whose local roads

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club seventh- and eighth-grade girls “Black” Team wrapped up the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 41-4, including six tournament championships throughout the state.

 

The team won the Sharon Eagles’ Pre-Season Tournament in Foxboro, the West Side Tournament in West Springfield, the Golden Bears Holiday Classic at WNE in Springfield, the Boys and Girls Club Tournament in Pittsfield, the Don Gleason Memorial Tournament in Pittsfield, and, finally, the A Division of the Ed Slatz Memorial Tournament in Chicopee,winning the championship on March 13, 2016.
