As Walter would say: DUMBASS. They did it to themselves. I've been a forester over 30 years. I grew up in October Mountain State Forest. What was done there was just plain stupid. Those stands didn't need to be clearcut. The Forest Service still manages their Norway Spruce, Red Pine and other plantations. To say that these plantations were a non-native invasive species, so they needed to be clearcut does not justify what they did. Everyone involved should be fired.
No buffer along the roads. Dumb.
No thought for the historical significance of being planted by the CCC's? Dumb.
Are they going to go back in and kill any Norway Spruce seedlings/saplings? I doubt it.
