PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hillcrest Educational Centers has awarded seven students from Berkshire County with $300 scholarships.
Since 2004, Hillcrest scholarships have been made available to students of local high schools in the communities where Hillcrest has programs including Great Barrington, Lenox and Pittsfield. The recipients were asked to complete a competitive essay and selected on the basis of academic excellence, community involvement, extracurricular school activities and character.
"As an educational institution we're committed to and believe in the value of higher education and especially making it accessible," Hillcrest President and CEO Gerard Burke said. "We're proud of our 2012 award winners and look forward to their continued academic achievements and future successes."
The scholarship committee announced the names of the recipients and the college's they will attend:
Zachary Conklin: Taconic High School - attending The College of Wooster
Christopher Coughlin: Taconic High School - attending Georgetown University
Matthew Placido: Taconic High School - attending Berkshire Community College
Joseph Reder: Wahconah Regional High School - attending Western New England University
Paige Sacchetti: Pittsfield High School - attending Berkshire Community College
Alyssa Sorrentino: Lenox Memorial Middle and High School - attending Roger Williams University
Kirsten Thorn: Monument Mountain Regional High School - attending The Culinary Institute of America
