PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Family YMCA’s will hold a new family-friendly walk/run Superhero 5K Challenge on Sept. 13.

Dressed as a superhero of their own design, children will conquer 19 villain-themed obstacles spread along a 3.1-mile course around Burbank Park.

The Superhero 5K Challenge is the YMCA’s new social responsibility fundraiser striving to build a safe community alongside our families, friends and neighbors. All proceeds will support the Y’s programs and services that provide a safe environment for children and families.

Two courses are planned for this event: Ages 3-10 years can participate in an Obstacle Course Fun Run for free, and ages 8 and up can participate in an Obstacle Course 5K for a $10 fee for those 8-18 and $15 for those over 18. (Children 8-10 years old will choose which run to participate in.) Registration the day of the event is $20 for everyone.

To register, go online by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.

Participants should arrive no later than 9 a.m. on Sept. 13 at the Controy Pavilion at Burbank Park in Pittsfield. All registered superheroes will receive a superhero bracelet. Superheroes can register individually or as a team. Team maximum size is 10 superheroes.

After the event, there will be food vendors, music, games and raffles. All villain-themed obstacles are family friendly, but superheroes may get dirty as they conquer them.

Prizes will be awarded for those superheroes or their teams who raise money for the event.
